I have an 07 SRT8 Grand Cherokee. My question has to do with knock sensors and knock retard. Specifically, each morning when I first start up the truck, knock sensor 1 (via DashHawk - plugs into the PCM) indicates knocking at about .3417 volts. In addition, the DashHawk indicates knock retard anywhere from 4 to 105 degrees. This phenomina only seems to happen on first start-up, though, as the PCM does not retard timing on any subsequent start-ups throughout the day. Do you folks think one of my my knock sensors is defective, or is it a more serious issue?
Thanks
Have not worked with Dashhawk, but the electronics only gathers knock info from the sensor during select time windows within the spark firing windows of 40 to 0 degrees BTDC on each cylinder. Engines are also more mechanically noisy when cold. The knock signiture is in a band from 5000 to 6000 Hz. Generally, if the crystal which produces the knock voltage is working, it is working correctly. Generally they do not shift frequencies.
