Hi, I was wondering what you guys thought about a hard break in with these srt engines? There have been articles going around lately saying that a few hard runs on the first uses of the engine will help the rings seat better and will keep it running great and low on oil usage throughout the life of the motor and I was wondering what you guys thought about that.
Also, when should the order banks open for detonator yellow challenger srt8 spring specials?
SRT recommends that you follow the run-in procedure recommended in the owner's manual. That works better for seating rings.

Hello there. I don't have an SRT vehicle right now but I am looking at a 2005 300C SRT8 with 73,000kms on it. According to RAMBIT, it is the 2nd V2 pilot made and the first Canadian one built. My questions are:
1. Are these pilot cars assembled with more care than a regular production car?
2. Would these first cars have had the s**t beaten out of them more than one that went straight into private hands?
Thanks. Even though I don't own one of your fine vehicles I have driven a few and I am definitely hooked!!
There is no such thing as V2 pilot. Do you mean S2 pilot? V2 is regular production.
In that case, I wish to state that I would like to see such upgrades, since the Pentastar V-6 interests me. I like the idea of high performance in a small package.
Hi guys. I am going to be picking up my new Cherokee SRT8 in a few days and wanted to ask a few questions on properly breaking my new ride in. I've read the owners manual and it recommends that you take it easy for the first 300 miles, which is exactly what I'm going to do. However, I do have a few questions on that subject.
1) Are these engines run on a dyno using conventional oil to seat the rings at the factory in Mexico before getting shipped to the assembly plant? I know that it is recommended by all motor builders I know of, that a new engine should never be broken in on synthetic oil and since these come from the factory with synthetic oil in them I want to make sure the rings will seat properly.
2) When should I first change the oil? I've heard everything from 60 miles up to 6000 miles.
3) What is the proper procedure for bedding in the Brembo's. There is nothing in the owners manual on this subject. Once they are bedded in do I have to do anything else with the breaks? Will they need to be bedded in again?
4) During the break in period should I keep it under 55 MPH? Or is there a certain RPM that I should try to stay under?
5) Is there any other break in advice that you can give me?
6) When can I drive this beast like it was meant to be driven?
I've done alot of research and I'm getting conflicting information so I hope you guys can help me with this. Thanks.
SRT recommends that you follow the run-in procedure in the owners manual which is ok with synthetic oil. The engine plant does not run-in the engines. We always run-in our dyno engines with synthetic oil.
The brake guys recommend 1000 miles of "normal" driving before you hammer on them.
1. The exhaust valves are made out of inconel, but are the intake valves made of? (plain steel, natrium filled or not)
2. We know the overall camspec
intakecam: Lift:9.2 mm, duration: 219 degrees
exhaustcam: Lift:8.4, duration: 216.5
But whats the IVO, IVC, EVO, EVC at 0 degrees of the VVT?
3. is there a maintenance interval for the Cam-chain?
Thanks for having these chat sessions. They are always very informative and enjoyable. I have two questions:
1. Mobil 1 is recommended in the 6.1. When should the first oil change occur and do you also recommend Mobil 1 Extended Life (15,000 mile changes)?
2. A supporting vendor posted on another forum that the 5.7 engine is more advanced than the 6.1. He stated that the 5.7 has a better cam, similar intake, similar heads, and is 'king" until 5,200 rpm. What is your response to this?
No question the upgrades to the 5.7L that went into production in last year are impressive, but... the fact that you had to include the "until" qualifier makes it pretty clear who the real winner is.
