i am german and have imported a 2008 Charger Srt-8 from a dealer in mexico into germany.
As we have a lot of Autobahns with no speed limit, it does happen on a regular basis that i drive my Charger with over 200km/h (125mph) average for a longer period of time, like maybe 1 hour or so. I know that i get no warranty from Dodge or Chrysler in Germany, that's not the question.
My questions are:
- Are there differences between the officially imported 300c-SRT8s and my (Mexico)-Charger SRT-8 regarding engine cooling or anything similar?
- What would you recommend me? Add an oil cooler? Watch oil temperature and don't let it go above xx°? Add a tranny oil cooler?
By the way, Top-speed i have done with my Charger is 178.5mph, confirmed by GPS, on a level part of the road, not downhill. I think it wanted to go faster, but i decided that this would be enough.
My impression is that the Chassis behaves very well at these speeds, i am not joking when i say that i can do these speeds with only one hand on the steering wheel.
As it is going to be night-time here when you are online, i may not be online when you answer the questions.
First, thank you for the fun I've had in 3 SRT rides (Charger, 300C and now a Challenger)...these rods make an old soldier smile!
Please advise:
Do you recommend bedding of the SRT breaks when squealing
is somewhat frequent?
And how do we interpret/decode the "Chime Stack" codes in the extended EVIC?
Hi, I was wondering what you guys thought about a hard break in with these srt engines? There have been articles going around lately saying that a few hard runs on the first uses of the engine will help the rings seat better and will keep it running great and low on oil usage throughout the life of the motor and I was wondering what you guys thought about that.
Also, when should the order banks open for detonator yellow challenger srt8 spring specials?
Question on behalf of dylzsrt who couldn't be here this evening:
Was just checkin out my car (2009 300C SRT8), and noticed my F1 supercar tires are 245's all the way around.I thought they came with 255 rears,245 fronts??
Is this a new thing or have I been had bad??

Hi guys. I am going to be picking up my new Cherokee SRT8 in a few days and wanted to ask a few questions on properly breaking my new ride in. I've read the owners manual and it recommends that you take it easy for the first 300 miles, which is exactly what I'm going to do. However, I do have a few questions on that subject.
1) Are these engines run on a dyno using conventional oil to seat the rings at the factory in Mexico before getting shipped to the assembly plant? I know that it is recommended by all motor builders I know of, that a new engine should never be broken in on synthetic oil and since these come from the factory with synthetic oil in them I want to make sure the rings will seat properly.
2) When should I first change the oil? I've heard everything from 60 miles up to 6000 miles.
3) What is the proper procedure for bedding in the Brembo's. There is nothing in the owners manual on this subject. Once they are bedded in do I have to do anything else with the breaks? Will they need to be bedded in again?
4) During the break in period should I keep it under 55 MPH? Or is there a certain RPM that I should try to stay under?
5) Is there any other break in advice that you can give me?
6) When can I drive this beast like it was meant to be driven?
I've done alot of research and I'm getting conflicting information so I hope you guys can help me with this. Thanks.
Thanks for having these chat sessions. They are always very informative and enjoyable. I have two questions:
1. Mobil 1 is recommended in the 6.1. When should the first oil change occur and do you also recommend Mobil 1 Extended Life (15,000 mile changes)?
2. A supporting vendor posted on another forum that the 5.7 engine is more advanced than the 6.1. He stated that the 5.7 has a better cam, similar intake, similar heads, and is 'king" until 5,200 rpm. What is your response to this?
Hello there. I don't have an SRT vehicle right now but I am looking at a 2005 300C SRT8 with 73,000kms on it. According to RAMBIT, it is the 2nd V2 pilot made and the first Canadian one built. My questions are:
1. Are these pilot cars assembled with more care than a regular production car?
2. Would these first cars have had the s**t beaten out of them more than one that went straight into private hands?
Thanks. Even though I don't own one of your fine vehicles I have driven a few and I am definitely hooked!!
1. Is it true that the exhaust tone on the 6.1 improves (get deeper) as you put more miles on your SRT and the carbon coats the pipes and mufflers?
2. The SRT has a good stock air intake. Is there any benefit (i.e., performance gain) to replacing the stock paper filter with a low-restriction cotton panel filter?
