Considering a 300 SRT8

Hey guys,

Been doing some reading and just registered. Tossing around the idea of getting a "fun" car. Always wanted a muscle car but have been too responsible in the past . Currently own a 2002 300M and a 2006 Durango Limited w/HEMI. My wife and I have tossed around the idea of upgrading the D, but I'm starting to think it would be more fun to get a car, especially since there is nothing wrong with the D and the replacements we are looking at are too expensive. We do have two young kids so I still want something we can toss some car seats in, and honestly I like me a big sedan anyway.

From the bit of reading I've done here, it sounds like there probably isn't a huge difference from 2006 to 2010, correct? I ask because this is likely the years I'd be looking at.
What do you feel would be a good price on a 2006? On a 2010?
I haven't seen it yet, but there is a 2010 nearby selling for just over $25k. I'm thinking a guy could find a 2006 for mid teens?

One problem I have with buying a fun car is that I live up in central Canada so we have a lengthy winter. Initially I'd plan to keep the 300M, but is it possible to use the SRT in the winter around town on snow/ice covered roads? Are there winter tires, or good enough all seasons, that you can get for it?

That's probably a good start, but anything you can think to share with a potential buyer would be much appreciated. I was reading about the Caddy CTS-V as well, but I'm thinking an 09 will just be too costly for a third vehicle, as awesome as they sound.

The SRT8's got a refresh after 2006 and again in 2008.

They changed the front lip spoiler and trunk lid spoiler.
The 2007 and up models have a drag time computer to give 0-60 times and quarter miles.
They also offer the MYGIG radio which has USB connection and built in AUX jack.

If you don't mind having a premium gas guzzler as a third car, go for it!

i live down here in utah and its snowy about 4-5 months out of the year and i got my srt8 just before winter, and i was surprised at how it handled in the snow even with the low profile tires i got. It might just be me but i think it does very well in the snow and ice even when its 30 below zero

The SRT8 has an excellent electronic Stability Control. On it's all season RS-A tires, it's quite stable.

I think an SRT8 would be a fine family car but then again, I may be prejudiced.

As with any used car, prices will vary depending on local market conditions, age, mileage and general condition of the car. I have not seen any SRT8's in my area offered below $23K but those are lot or private seller prices and are negotiable.

A fully loaded 300 pentastar is a better family car than an SRT8. SRT8 prices only go below $25k after 30,000 miles or a few years pass.

I like the idea of a family 4 door hotrod that the whole family can enjoy. and ya prices vary ,and depends where you live if you can even find one. i say get it and have fun.

Well, I disagree, NormGarry but we all have our own opinions. When I strap two of my grandsons in the backseat and we head out, they are always telling me "Faster, Poppa! Faster!!!" They must like the exhaust. And, last weekend was a dry couple of days here so the SRT8 was put into service. Headed out for a birthday party and did a 0-120 mph blast with the wife next to me. She laughed and said, "Hell Yeah!!!"

The added fun factor of the car makes it ideal for my family.

A Pentastar V6 can accelerate to fast (illegal) speeds too. Personally, I wouldn't want to drive that way with my kids in the car. I risk my life regularly, but with kids under my responsability, I'd prefer to drive a comfortable, slow econobox.

I wouldn't mind a V6 AWD 300. God knows so much money would be going into my kid's mouth I wouldn't wanna be spending extra on gas.

Even my XJ-L's lack of AWD bothers me when people are with me and there's ice/snow. Makes me not even wanna go out when weather is inclement.

Drive what way, NormGarry? I never drive recklessly nor do I drive in an unsafe manner. Yes, I go fast but in this car that is not stretching or exceeding it's capabilities. Nor do I drive fast when in traffic. The SRT8 can loaf whenever it is necessary.

Stop making assumptions.
