Window Tint

I plan to get my windows tinted next week. Any tips/advice from you guys (type of tint-brand, darkness, etc.).

I know that many people tint the rear windows darker than the front - how does this look and do you recommend it?

My current plans are to do this through the dealer - mistake?

Cheers - Andrew

Depends on the price difference between them and a tint shop, and how good a job they do. Usually it is best not to go through a dealer for this..... they'll probably have an outside shop do the work anyway, and a specialty shop usually has far more experience.
If they do their own work, see if there's another vehicle they have done so you can check out their quality.

The darker the tint the nicer it will look, but this depends on two factors.
1- how good is your eye sight, have you been in dark tinted vehicles at night and can you still see fairly well?
2- the other limit to darkness is the law. How much is allowed where you are at?

As CUEBALL said do it outside, they have more experience than a car dealer.

The darkest that they allow on the front side windowns in MA is 35%. The rest of them can be darker. I've found that 14-20% looks really good but recently the local law enforcement hasn't cared to much for that. I ended up putting 32% on my SRT-8. This way I don't have to talk to the people driving the cars with the "pretty lights" to much

There are places that specialize in tint (some also do car audio too). I've been going to the same place for years. They take care of all of my tint, audio/video needs.

Tint

The manual says don't used metallized tint. Members report it screws up the AM reception (who listens to AM anyway). The FM reception is already not great. The dealer sugested it might adversely affect Sirius and/or Satellite Nav (I don't see how).

Dyed film is cheap, and to me, not the way to go.

I went with Ceramic Tint (Huper Optik). The heat rejection is UNBELIEVABLE! 85% Heat rejection and 99% UV rejection. I chose the DREI version (name of tint). It's not as black as I would have liked, more mirrorish. It looks great (IMO), works great, and I can see out! As much as I love the limo tint look (AZ is also 35% max legal limit) I hate not being able to see out (especially at night).

The ceramic tint is PRICEY. The tint comes in three levels. The dealer quoted $399, $599, or $799! They outsource it. I went to the source and paid $550 for the $799 level (DREI). Contrary to posts by other members the Ceramic went on all windows including the back with no seams or darts. Lifetime replacement for any reason. If the heat rejection is important to you, I highly recommend looking into the ceramic tint.

see my thread about the same topic, with pics:

http://www.300cforums.com/forums/srt...-clearbra.html

as others have said here, go with a specialty shop, and non-metallic if possible. if they need to put any seams or darts on a car with windows this square, run away quickly from their shop...

my pics are 3M, 35% on the fronts and 25% on the rears/back window. any more of a difference and i'd be afraid it would be noticeable.

my dealer offered the lowest price...
why?
because they did so many and didn't want to lose the business to the privateers...
came out great!
so get a couple of referrals from them to call and check what typr of job they do...
and the threads and other comments above are great info...

I had 20 % tint put on mine, looks super on the black car. 35 % is street legal, but i've had zero problems with the tint so far. Only problem i've had is black with window tint provokes people to call it a gangster's car, or a mob bosse's car or sumthin like that,
i finally got used to those comments, i simply say you're right dude, it is a gangster's get away car~!!
