Comp's Hemi Camshafts

I'd think about these more after tuning is available but they are something to keep in mind -

New XFI. Camshafts Deliver Big Power Increases For Late-Model Chrysler Hemi 5.7 and 6.1 Engines

Three different camshaft combinations net power increases up to 61 HP COMP Cams New XFI. (Xtreme Fuel Injection) camshafts for Hemi-powered Chrysler vehicles dramatically increase engine horsepower and torque, yet retain compatibility with all OEM vehicle computer systems. Available in three different profiles (XFI 260, 268 and 273); the new camshafts are application-specific with designs for street performance and towing.

In recent dyno tests on a Hemi engine using COMP's #26918 beehive valve springs and upgraded exhaust, the XFI 260 netted 20 additional ft pounds of torque in lower rpm ranges with a peak of 31 additional hp. The XE 268 camshaft added 14 ft lbs of torque at low rpm and 47 additional peak horsepower. The amazing COMP Cams XFI 273 camshaft yielded it's most significant horsepower increases over 4500 rpm generating 61 more horsepower than the stock Hemi 5.7-liter engine.

"We're extremely pleased with the power gains we have achieved with these camshafts," said Scooter Brothers, VP of Engineering. "When we set out to offer specialized Hemi camshafts, we had an acceptable power increase figure in mind. We have far exceeded that original target figure and believe that these three camshafts will offer customers the ability to find the exact camshaft that is right for their vehicle, car or truck."

A "Tuner Package" will be available in the future. This will include the cam and Fast-Flash programmer for optimized electronic tuning.

112-500-11 - 208 212 .522 .525 @ 113 - Hydraulic Roller - Slight noticeable idle, requires modified computer, excellent torque throughout range $379.99

112-501-11 - 216 220 .528 .531 @113 - Hydraulic Roller - Noticeable idle, requires modified computer, strong midrange $379.99

112-502-11 - 224 228 .547 .550 @ 114 - Hydraulic Roller - Needs Extended rev limit, requires modified computer and better exhaust, strongest power over 2500 RPM.$379.99

We also have springs and retainers available.

Talking Fast Flash HUH?

How is it that Comp Cams can get a Flash Tuner to reprogram for timing or fuel yet, no one else is? am i missing something. Besides i'd love to see if that XFI 273 the biggie would throw a code and check engine, if it works seemless it would be worth having a cam sounding 61hp increase. That would be Bad Azz. whats the cost of the whole package? and when will they be available? Can you get a Hp figure for the three different cam profiles?

Can't wait til the Aftermarket catches up to the 6.1, it's gonna be fun

The springs and retainers are -

26918-16 Comp Cam Beehive Valve Springs $179.99
761-16 Comp Cam Steel Retainers $64.99
762-16 Comp Cam Titanium Retainers $269.99

The tuner isn't available yet. Personally I don't think we will see that until after the SuperChips tuner. The big cam could show some nice numbers but other mods will be required to make that work well. Also have to remember that running a cam like that can turn what is now a normal luxary sports car into something that sounds like a race car.

Not sure how things will be with the MDS. We'll have to wait for tuning and get a few going to see how that is.

Thumbs up

The cams that were introduced by comp cams for the hemi 5.7 have had numerous driveability problems. The hemi Ram guys were all over these earlier this year and we also played with a couple...we ended up taking the cams out and we have installed several 6.1L cams in the 5.7 L Hemis and this worked out with power and torque gains of +30 rwhp/35lbs tq.

The 6.1 cam seemed to still work with the MDS and the ECU was Happy, which is the real hard part on the vehicles as everyone knows.

we also installed a 6.1 L intake on a 5.7 with great results

if any one wants more detaled information, I have all the part #'s and copys of detailed install instructions

if i was to switch to a 6.1L cam in my 5.7, would i need to purchase the valve springs and such? also, what kind of gains with the 6.1L intake? and the 30rwhp with 6.1L cam, was this without any kind of tuning? very interested...

Thats great news for the 5.7 guys but doesnt realy tell us 6.1, and in my case 6.6 guys much. A cam upgrade that would work with the computer and not be too noticable but a little lopy would be awesome in my Hennessey'd SRT550 Magnum...

lots of questions

DCX officially says that reason for no MDS in 6.1 is big cam timing. We need some more guinea pigs to start tearing into their new motors and report back.

This sure raises about 100 questions from me!

More details please.
