How far from the console / gauge cluster do you sit?

I'm using the unlock seat movement feature and loving it. It makes me feel like I'm a fighter pilot or something as I get out after stopping and getting back in to "take-off".

How does everyone gauge how far from the console to sit?

With the steering wheel and the seat moving in and out .... the distance to the airbag (wheel to me) is independent of where the seat is with respect to the console and gauge cluster.

There is a foot brace next to the brake. Do you use that to gauge your "take-off" position?

Well, since I’m 6’5” I have my seat all the way back- and since I’m the only one that drives my car it is always in that position. Sorry, I know this isn’t what you’re looking for. I am curious about how far away some sit – especially with the air bag. I’ve seen some pretty small women sit right up on top of the steering wheel- that always makes me cringe at the thought of the air bag going off.

Don't know the distance in inches, but will describe the arrangement.

I'm 6'4", so the seat is nearly back all the way and down. Power pedals all the way forward to give max. leg room. Front of seat is up slightly to support the thighs. I like to sit fairly upright, so seat back is not reclined much. Steering wheel is up for clear view of cluster, and easy one hand control with my arm on the window sill (which still feels "high" to me, but acceptable).

The wife, on the other hand is 5'4" and seat is forward, pedals are maxed toward the seat, steering wheel is down some, etc.

Ummm... have you actually seen a race car steering wheel- it is not all the way down, it it pretty upright and usually fairly close to the driver.
Does not "look" comfortable but that is not the intent.

Wink

Well, like GoofyTimL, although I'm somewhat shorter than he is, I too have my seat positioned almost all the way rearward with the pedals positioned all the way toward the firewall as well; however, I have the seat raised as high as it goes as it makes it much easier for me to get in/out of my car. The seat back is also slightly reclined, as I don't like sitting 'at attention', and the steering wheel is more or less set at the center position in order to allow me a clear view of the gauge cluster. This seating position allows me to rest my left elbow upon the door pull ledge area and my right elbow upon the center console...although it's a little too low; therefore, additionally justifying me another reason for purchasing a custom leather center console cover from 22Elite.

Since my wife is 5'1", she positions the seat all the way forward with the pedals maxed toward the front of the seat, with the steering wheel lower than where I prefer to have it. Needless to say, I can't even get into the driver's seat when she leaves these positioned this way.

Memory Seat

I have 2 drivers positions in memory, both for me. Noone else needs to drive my car.

Position 1 is "Chill": Sat is all the way back, and leaned back, and low, steering wheel is low, everything is "Chill"!

Position 2 is "Attack": Seat is pretty straight up, slid forward about 1/2 way, and raised. Left foot is planted solid on the "Squishy" footrest. Steering wheel is higher up, everything is in "Attack Mode".

Unfortunately to use the memory, seatbelt must be off, and car in Park! So transitions occur in the garage or at redlights. On the fly, it's the old 'Lemme scoot this seat up a bit" routine.

world's coolest wife

I must have the best wife! She's had our ride over 120 mph and really does know how to drive it! Plus she whispers cool stuff in my ear while I'm driving like "go get 'em, tiger!"

BTW, at SRTTE we were told to set the wheel so your arms are comfortably bent while driving, if you put your wrist over the top and your elbow is not bent you are too far away for max control.

But you could drive like my youngest, as far away and as low as you can get!

I love choices!
