Report of Rhino Ramp Failure

Got this report of a Rhino Ramp failure from another forum I'm on:

http://www.tamparacing.com/forums/ge...to-pieces.html

I know we've had posts from SRT-8 owners using these in order to avoid using a jack to do an oil change. Assuming the report's legit, I'd be very nervous about using a ramp to hold up one of our beasts when a lightweight import made it collapse.

The old ones are probably still good. Now, in order to save a couple of pennys, they are probably made in China or Mexico. Scary stuff. Cecil................

Excellent thread. Scary stuff. I posted more than a year ago to have a back up in place. Never trust any single device when crawling under a car. I use the ramp and weight load my hydraulic jack at the subframe on the side I work on and I locate a jack stand on the other side. Set the park brake and chock the rear wheels.

I've got a set of Rhino Ramps (the heavy-duty gray ones) and have never had the slightest indication of a problem with them. I've never heard of another failure, though it's possible that it's happened.

Personally, I'm also a belt and suspenders kind of guy when I've got a ton or two suspended above me--I always toss the jackstands under the car . . . just in case.

One of the first things that came to my mind, though, was the possibility that the guy drove past the end, and the ramp broke when his car came crashing down on it. It's a possibility that's raised in that thread.

Thanks for the "heads up." While my faith in Rhino Ramps isn't yet shattered, it's a good reminder to have some redundancy in your safety planning, particularly when it's potentially a matter of life and death.

Suspicious - look where both ramps broke...off to one side and on the end. Looks like maybe it was a drive over and the rockers landed on the ramps.

Maybe not... but it looks odd that both ramps have the same damage and the driver states that "one" broke when his foot slipped off the clutch...look like both broke this way.
