Supercharged SRT8 in March 2006 Super Rod Magazine

The SRT8 project car we worked on for SEMA is on the cover of the latest issue of Super Rod Magazine. There's an excellent 6-page article on the car that talks about the GS Motorsports supercharger, the StopTech brakes, the Moton/H&R suspension and all the rest. The issue became available this week at newstands. Pick one up today!

Here's the cover:

Just picked it up; very cool write up and very cool car! Really starting to get into the lowered look and by the way, love the 20's as compared to 22's, better choice in my opinion. One question, how much difficulty are you having on the streets with everyday driving with the car lowered that much?

The car still has less than 200 miles on it. It's only been driven from the parking lot of the Las Vegas Hilton to the Convention Center (for SEMA) and then out in the Nevada Painted Desert for the photo shoot for Super Rod Magazine and two foreign magazines. It's probably logged as many miles on the dyno as on the street! Oh yes, it did get taken out a few miles to bed in the brakes when they were first installed.

But I agree with your observation about the lowering. This car would never make it over a speed bump. Before it's delivered back to the owner in Las Vegas, it is going to have the front raised about 3/4".

The choice of 20" wheels was made because this car was designed to be a competent road car, possibly even competing in the SuperCar Challenge. For optimum handling and acceleration, the wheels should be just large enough to clear the brakes. These wheels were custom designed based on the engineering drawing of the StopTech brakes and they are much lighter than stock. Performance aside, I prefer the aesthetics of 20" wheels on the SRT8 to 22" and larger.

Hey Dave. Glad to see AJ's Bad to the Bone SRT still making the scene/news.

If you talk to AJ tell him I said congrats. That is the SRT that dreams are made of. That is the SRT that I want Freebird to grow up to be one day. I still look at the pictures of that car almost weekly. Pant, pant... If anything I will have Cim-Tex make a similar trunk lid like AJ's. So smooth and clean.

Does it still have only 200 miles on it? I thought he was possibly selling it in Japan?

Let me know if he ever decides to sell. FreebirdSRT will go up for sale the next day, lol.

I spoke with AJ yesterday and he's planning to trailer it up to the SRT Nationals in Topeka next month. http://www.srtnationals.org/ So some of you may get to see it in person.

I believe the car is for sale, but I think the asking price is very high. He just had it appraised for insurance coverage while transporting and the number was $140,000. I suppose if I was an oil mogul (or one of the Microsoft founders), didn't have enough time to devote to building my own, and wanted the car beacuse it was already sorted out and a 2-time magazine cover car, then perhaps. But that's also Porsche 997 Turbo territory!

I think he's finally up to 300 miles.

Now that makes me almost want to go to the SRT Nationals. But it will still be in Kansas, in July. Do you know how friggin hot that is going to be,lol.

I heard Bill Gates is stepping down from daily duties at MS, maybe Bill collects cars for his underground parking garage, on the grounds of his 65 million dollar home. LOL.

It is a pipe dream for me, AJ's SRT. I prefer to build up my own ride. Not buy another's build up. But AJ's is def. an inspiration for me. I know the bird will never reach $140,000 status. I can promise you that though, lol.

I think he's finally up to 300 miles.
Nice to see he drives it a teeny, tiny bit, at least. With that much into it, I wouldn't drive it much either.

He Dave, you said he is trailering it up to Kansas. Is the car in Texas or back in Vegas?

Hey Danno, nice to see they still have a few rubber check books around. I was thinking $140,000.....let me go to my secret warehouse and turn on the printing machines and crank up the washers and dryers, blue poker chips, red poker chips, lol. The scientist's that I hired from the Univ. of Texas sure do know how to make a $100 and $20 look correct and flawless. For a better word they are perfect bills. So I guess it will be a race to see if I get $140,000 in funny money made before you track down AJ with your rubber check book, lol.

Let's see if I start up the machines tonight........times 3 @ 2 shifts of 8 hours......I should have the money ready to go by Friday of this week.
Now all I have to do is track down AJ, once the money is ready to go,lol. .........

Too late, I wrote the sucker a fine rubber check just this afternoon. It bounced so high it caught the trade winds for faster delivery. Better luck next time.

BTW...don’t forget to do an extra spin cycle on the washer and dryer; it will help the FM look more authentic.
