TSB brake pads, report and dust test to begin

Okay, I have had my MSRT8 back for a few days with the new brake pads outlined in the TSB. I have verified that they are the correct pads according to the TSB. I also had my dealership tell me that based on the retail price of these pads from DCX, they figure a brake job will run ~1200.00 or more for all 4 corners on the SRT8(I am betting it is double this once they have a real figure for the rotors, they guessed ~100.00 each).

My rotors are lightly surfaced with no major grooving or damage visiable. The car has been driven several times and I have beded the brakes. I cannot feel any difference with the pads versus the old pads. The initial bite seems to actually feel a bit more aggressive, but I think it was just the fact that I was really putting the brakes down instead of just normal drive stopping. The brakes do not make any noise during the stopping now, so the TSB did do what it was intended to do.

Now, there is a lot of complaints about the brake dust and I can honestly say that I wash the wheels 3 times more often than the car. I keep the wheels very clean and I am very familiar with where I drive it and how much dust I get on the wheels during various drives. I am going to post my subjective feelings on how these pads dust over the next few days. I am hoping for some reduction in the dust issue, but not holding my breath.

Wheels are washed!!! It really burns me that I have to go drive this 425hp monster to gather this data

It's a tough job, Todd - but somebody's gotta do it!

Mine in the shop right now awaiting the new rotors that they discovered needed replacing during the TSB. On the house of course.

Interesting side note. Under the rental car agreement while in the shop under warranty they must only rent me a Chrysler product so I had the tough choice of deciding against a Rental White Sebring or a Rental Red Neon. I should have chosen by Schwinn.

When you pick up your SRT8, can you see if they have the price for those rotors? It is my assumption that we are going to end up replacing pads and rotors on every brake job. The pads they pulled off my vehicle actually showed very little actual wear when compared to how the rotor is wearing. Since the rotor usually goes 2, maybe 3, pad replacments on most of my vehicles, I think the rotor and pads are going to go together on the SRT8 each time...

One day of driving and errands done. Brake dust on the wheels appears to be very light compared to before. I am a little surprised by this, as I did a few more 'hard' stops today from some higher speeds to see how the pads feel. I have no issue with the performance of the pads at this point. They stop fine, even from 'go directly to jail' speeds.

Dust, again, it appears lighter than normal so far, especially for the day of driving it got. This may be some icing.....More miles/days to go.

Talking New Pads

I got the new pads on the front right before the 1/14 SD M&G (Thanks Meister, LilGuyHemi CButler32 & Moe for helping me properly Bed My Brakes!) Anyone in attendance at the M&G saw first hand the Brake Dust from the Replacement Front Pads! (same as before) And just like before, the wheels require cleaning EVERY DAY! (I drive 122 miles a day on Average)

The rotors retail for $112.75 each (at my Dealership) and after cutting them once (on the fronts) it's obvious that they'll have to be replaced next time. So I'd say you can count on replacing rotors every other brake job.

Brake pedal feel is exactly the same as with the original pads; AWESOME!

Well, unfortunately guys, this is the reality. Dan has it nailed on the head and after some late nigh cruising and some more this morning, the dust is really building up. It is still a 3 wheel wash to one car wash scenerio for me....Oh well....
