Superchips Flashpaq And the 6.1

There has been some mixed info as to weather or not the Superchips Flashpaq will be able to tune the 6.1 SRT-8 cars when it is released on February 15th. This is the official word from Superchips as of this morning -

3825: 2005-2006 LX Platform - 300C, Charger & Magnum - 5.7L HEMI - scheduled release date 2/15/06, it will have standard Superchips features such as Speed Limiter raising, Tire Size adjustability, Shift point modifications, DTC reading, etc. Also, this product is internet updateable. No HP or TQ figures yet. As most of you know, dyno testing is the last process done before release.

***The 6.1L Hemi will be an "Update" at a later time.***
We have although seen a few SRT-8 cars here we have not scheduled a release yet for the 6.1L's. We will try hard to get it in there but at this point I would not bet on it.

This means that you'll be able to download the update to tune your 6.1 if it isn't available when they are released on the 15th. Alot of SRT-8 owners have already placed their orders with us. We can put those aside and honor the introductory pricing for you. The same goes for all new orders for the 6.1 tuners.

Let me know if you need any other info.

Tom

So what are you saying. Buy the 5.7L chip and wait for the upgrade? Will it work in the 6.1L and what are the benefits?

And, are the downloads for software upgrades and new features going to be free? Does Superchips have a policy on this?

I just updated my flashpaq on my Ram for....FREE! Yep, just go to Superchips website and create a user account. I just connected my programmer and it did all the rest.

Ram power is smoother...shifts seem more silky too. Very nice!

Please correct me if I'm mistaken, but there is no actual chip to install (a la "Jetchips"). You merely connect the Superchip Flashpaq unit to your OBD connector under the dash, upload the new parameters to your car's computer, then disconnect the Flashpaq. The Flashpaq unit itself is upgradeable thru internet downloads via your home computer.
From what Tom is saying, I gather that if you have an SRT8, you can buy the Flashpaq unit (after it's 2/15 release date), but you will not be able to tune your SRT8 with it until you download the FREE SRT8 "upgrade", which will be available at a future date.

I take this to mean that Superchips has not comitted to supporting the 6.1 yet. If you buy now and wait you risk never being able to use it.

I take it to mean that what is the use of buying it now. Just buy the thing when its available for the SRT-8.

Hey Tbyrne: I've never spoken up before, but add my name to your list for the SRT-8 unit. (PM me to confirm please)

Thanks.

They are not charging your card until a few days before the 6.1 units ships to them so there is no risk involved. If the 6.1 unit never gets produced, it never gets charged to your card. What's to worry about? If you order today, the only thing you are doing is logging your order for price protection. Seems like a win / win for everyone.

You will be able to log in to http://www.flashpaq.com/ for updates.

Superchips has been working with the SRT-8 cars but they don't expect that tuning to be avaiilable by 2/15. We're not charging anyone until just before the units are ready to ship. SRT-8 owners won't be charged until everything is all set.

JMatt: We've pretty much reached the point where most of the info has been released so we are now at the ordering/waiting for release stage. This is some info that was sent out/posted recently -

Superchips is still planning on releasing the 300C/Magnum/Charger Flashpaq tuners on February 15th. This tuner (part number 3825) will cover the 5.7 (6.1 will follow shortly after). Programming can also be done for 87 and 91 octane, the speed limiter can be adjusted by the user, the programmer won't completely turn off the ESP and they are working on being able to make changes in the transmission. You will be able to calibrate your speedometer if you've gone with a different tire size and torque management will be greatly reduced. No horsepower numbers have been released yet but we are expecting at least a 15-20hp increase along with much better driveability. Tuning from the factory tends to be very conservative so this programming will help bring your car to life! The whole process will only take about 10 minutes to complete. Detailed instructions will be included. Tech support will also be available through TBYRNE Motorsports. We'll be tuning our SRT-8 as soon as the first shipment arrives.

We are now taking orders for the new Flashpaq. Pricing is lower than Superchips will allow us to put in writing (very strict guidelines) so you will need to give us a call at 1-877-482-9763 to receive our introductory price. Tuners will be shipped on a first come first served basis. We already have ALOT of these pre-ordered from Superchips so there shouldn't be any problem filling orders quickly. You won't be charged until your tuner is ready to ship.
>>

Let me know if you need any other info.

Thanks,
Tom
