SRT-8 Transmission (AWD Version)

Okay, based on some information it appears they will be offering an SRT-8 AWD version.. the question is, which transmission/drivetrain is going into this beast?

What can hold up to the abuse of that much low end torque, plus AWD?

I've heard that its the same tranny in the SL600 (Twin Turbo V12, 600+ hp/tq) anyone confirm or deny this?

an AWD 300C SRT-8 - I am still skeptical since their are no 4-Matic AMG cars anymore especially with a possible $2500 Gas Guzzler Tax.

I'm basing my "hope" off of the JOB1 posting that included a JOB1 date for the SRT-8 AWD version... you've seen that and your still skeptical? or you havent seen it?

I've seen the JOB1 posting but I am still skeptical only because there are no AWD AMG models any more and those did not sell well. Your post asking where the high torque tranny is coming from helps fuel my doubts. If there is no tranny how can it happen. If it happens it would be great maybe DCX has something up their sleeves!

Well, as I heard the tranny out of the SL-600 --- which I believe was posted in a magazine somewhere.... but, dont quote me on that.

I'd be interested in either version, but if there was to be an AWD version, and the tranny looked stout enough, that would be the way I would prefer to go.

OK, i know this might sound a bit out there...but what would prevent them from adapting the currently existing Durango AWD/Hemi tranny configuration?

Being able to handle the power would be my only worry... so much torque... However, the 300C would be substantially lighter, so that would help.

How is the failure rate on them in the Durango?

Not sure about the failure rate, but I have been wondering about everyone being so concerned about the torque involved. If you look at the numbers the SRT-8 way outshines the C with 425 HP vs. 340 HP, but the torque difference is actually much less...420 vs. 390. I am not sure how badly a tranny would hold up under 30 lb/ft more torque unless regularly abused.

Just a thought.

Guess time will tell...

both about the durability of the Durango layout and what actually does arrive in the SRT.
