Wheel hazing? Rough surfacing?

Question-

I keep my wheels is pristine shape, never a day or two go by w/out the dust removed. Last night however, I noticed the rear wheels have lost that smooth as glass feel, and they seem to be hazed a bit as well, amost as if exposed to the elements for some time. But they have not.

The car is garaged and rarely driven - I clean softly with soapy microfiber cloths, I know I have not been abbrasive on the clear.

Has anyone experience this?

Thanks in advance-

Ken,

Do you have any polish or wax on them? If not, there's your answer. They're painted and clear coated so they need protection. Even moreso than the car's paint because of the abusive conditions they live in with regard to the brake dust and other elements/high temps.

Hope that helps.

Yeah i did- 'bout a Month ago waxed them, and always clean them - almost after each use. I think since the fronts dont have the problem, poss the coat of clear might not have been applied somehow to the rears...

After all the front wheels take the most dust and they are smooth to the touch. If I am alone in this issue, I may have a warranty gripe...

Waxing the wheels is really not going to help much, if at all. I would consider not wiping the dust off the wheels and only washing them with a lot of water. The brake dust has a pretty high metallic particle content and even just wiping it off gives it the ability to leave micro-fine scratches in the surface. Using a lot of rinse water to rinse the loose stuff off, then using a dedicated cotton wash 'sponge', re-rinsing and then drying is working very well on our wheels. I do see some damage beginning at the leading edge of each of the spokes on our MSRT8 wheels, though, as if road debrie is impacting them extremely hard in the area where the spokes meet the outter wheel.
