HP boost

So with seeing all of you guys enjoying your SRT's I'm thinking about picking one up which I found at msrp and I wouldn't be taking that much of a hit trading my C in. Now heres the but though if I buy the car now when do you guys suspect an increase in hp? I just dont want to get burnt with resale value if next year they decide to put the power up to 450.

I don't think the engine is changing at all for '07. They don't need to -- what horsepower competitor do they have in a similar sized car within say $30,000 of their price? (This is a guess, I have no inside information.)

MSRP isn't all that great now from what I'm reading, but the number that matters is the difference from your trade.

I wouldn't worry about it. You won't be dissappointed. Besides, even if they do "bump" the power up a little it will be to the 6.1 and we'll be able to mod accordingly to achieve the same results.

Expect a MAJOR HP bump in a couple years when the replace the entire engine. Possibly 500HP 6.4 to compete with an LS-7 CTS-v....Who knows, if it's a major concern it always will be because cars will keep getting faster.

...until we all have to drive hybrids that is.

I don't think we will see the 6.4L Hemi in the SRT8 line 4 door sedans, but I do believe DCX has at least 50HP sitting on the table with the current motor. The ported head results gotten by GSM and Hennessey show there is a lot of power left in the heads and DCX can always play with the cam and tuning. If they went to 450hp in a year, I wouldn't be surprised at all. I think they could do 500hp, rated, pretty easy with the 6.1L. That 44xrwhp GSM heads mod'd SRT8 is something around 530 flywheel HP.

Why don't you? People said the same thing about the 5.7 having more power through tuning, head work, etc, but Chrylser bored it out to 6.1 for the SRT anyway. (among the others mentioned) It's not inconceivable they will apply the same formula and bore it out a little more.

Who knows...

Regardless I think we can all agree that if the LS-7 CTS-V hits the street we will definitely see ~500HP in the near future.

new benchmark

looks like 500 HP is the new benchmark for the street. Expect DCX to come to the table.

mmmmm, Hungry?

You should go for it. This car is an entirely different beast than the 5.7 I still can’t believe it is just 85 more horsepower- as it sure feels a hella lot more! I agree with the others…… its exciting right now to drive one- so don’t miss the fun.

If memory serves me correctly, these engines are already puting out over 450 hp. The factory put out the 425 figure and I'm not sure why. They could come out next year and claim it has 450, and still be the same engine. Someone dyno'd the engine and got a 458. Cecil...............
