SRT8 Sleeper even within the 300 family

I have had 2 300c's pull up to lights next to me and try to gun it. In a previous post I stated the sleeper look of the SRT8, I have to come to find out that alot of people that have 300's and 300c's dont even know about the SRT8. Maybe here in Seattle as they have not been readily available for quite some time, but it seems like the masses of 300 owners dont know what the SRT8 is or it's capabilities. I an not knocking them at all, they think it is a Touring model and that they would eat it for lunch with the 5.7 hemi. Both times after I pulled ahead and stopped the looked and asked what is that. The SRT8 does not have any Hemi badging anywhere on the body and people look for that, so even in the 300 community it is a sleeper.

As of the March 2006, there have been 296,330 300's sold.
2004...112,930
2005...144,068
2006....39,332
Total..296,330

If you assume this forum has the most educated buyers, that is 5,516 members, or 1.9% of total cars sold. That leaves a lot of other buyers that probably havn't spent the time researching the cars differences. The fact that each car's "signature" and body style are similar makes it even more difficult to distinguish the cars.

Mine has hemi badging. So do others. But some say 300. There is a thread that polled people on what they had on the sides of their car.

sleepy

Don't you just love being a sleepy street car? I get such a kick out of the higher priced cars such as BMW thinking they're just going to blow me away.

That's got to be the best thing about the SRT8.

Yeah just the other day I walked away from a 645i convertible. He wasn't happy.

It is funny you mention sleepers. I went for the sleeper/show look and since I haven't put my new trunk and roof spoilers on yet. My OEM SRT trunk spoiler is also off, only the front and rear lower SRT valance's separate me from looking like any other 300C. Just ask scarbs and vvv90. They even thought it my be a V6 sitting in the lot of the DT hotel, albeit very dirty from long drive from TX. Last night I was driving home, esp dis-engaged, auto-stick in 3, rolling at about 40 getting lot's of stares from passing cars, WTF kind of car is it looks, priceless. I love my dark tint, lol.

I see in my driver mirror a fellow 300 rolling up beside me, so I drop to 2 and give him a friendly hello kooks/Zoomers rumble style. I see the 300 pause, obv. checking out Freebird, SOB guns it on me and fly's by. WTF, I see he has chrome SRT wheels, no SRT trunk badge. At first I thought the 300 was black, but when he rolled under a street light, I saw that he was in a Black Cherry (scarbs/Hemmissey) 300. Well I am in the know and that 300C needed to be warned, about there big brother now rolling the streets, SRT. I really didn't want to do it to a fellow LX owner, but hey he presented the challenge when he shot by FreebirdSRT, when all she wanted to do was say wuz up.

One light later and we are side-by-side, red light. I am in AS 1, left foot on the brake, right foot slowly loading on the rpm. I stage the car at 2,200 rpm. Light turns green, Freebird is flying. The 3C stayed with me for a moment, but only a moment. By the time I clicked up to 3 and just hammered the gas, I saw the front end of the 3C go down, he took his foot off the gas. So I shut down FB, and coasted until he gets beside me. I roll down my window, tell him to take his next left. We pull over to M & G. I get out and he walks up to me and says "I didn't know at first what type of 300 you were, but your loud exhaust told me you had something under the hood, man what are you running"

We should have a new 300 member joining pretty soon, lol. He lives in N.O., Louisianna, but has been in Houston alot, since Katrina. Well after wanting to know everything about Freebird, he also told me his 2 best friends ea. just got a Charger SRT and Magnum SRT. Seems they had ridden in his 3C and fell in love with it. Then when they read that the SRT was coming out, they waited. They just took delivery of them this month. So my new 3C buddy now has all the proper info. (LX forums and Charger forums) to give to his friends. plus of course he will be joining our family here on 3CF. We might just start getting a few locals together for some cruising of H-town after all.

I've only seen two SRT8s in the Seattle; both black and on the Eastside. I'll be lookin' for your Silver one as I've yet to see either a Silver color SRT8s in this area.

The converse is true too. Many people are probably happy w/their 300base/Tourinig/Limited as they've spent a lot less money on their car, yet very few people can tell it's not the more $pendy 300c/SRT8.

W/the car smoothed out (no side mouldings), polished dubs, tint, and dropped stance, it's not much of a sleeper as in terms of looking stock. It is as far as HP is concerned, but then again, 95% of the folks out there couldn't tell an M5 between a 530i, or an E55 from an E320. For that matter, a Z06 between a C6.

Let them wonder……. or if you wish……. let them eat cake. We know what we have and that’s all that matters.

When my dad got his SRT8 last August I was following him back from the dealership in my 300C. When we were almost to my parents' house a guy in a Silver 300 touring was going the other way; he must have been so surprised to see another 300 much less TWO of them that he turned around and followed us! (Not many 300's in North Idaho which is kinda cool....). When Dad and I pulled into his driveway the guy in the touring stops in the street and gave us a thumbs up and said "I didn't realize there were so many cars LIKE MINE in town" We didn't bother to explain that the SRT8 was not exactly "like his" but it was pretty amusing.

By the way Kobe8, my dad's SRT has the exact same "Hemi-C" badge on the front fenders as my 300C does. His is a 2006 and my 'regular' C is a 2005.

I can't wait to meet someone with an LX SRT8. NOBODY sells them (or is qualified to) around here. At the local Dodge dealer, there are lots of Mags and Chargers just sitting there. My local Chrysler dealer never has many 300s (of any variety) on the lot either... many a van and Pacifica place. Crossfires are even more rare.

Got my H.E. detailed today and the guy looked at the 2005 also. I want to get it detailed after our Calif. trip. After we picked up the H.E., stopped at Sam's club and there was a CV 300C parked in the lot fairly close to the store exit. Had OH plates (back and front - ugh) and a sun roof with a wind bubble. Due to the number of cars in the lot, wife had to park the blue in a different aisle, and I put the H.E. in a third aisle.

We bought a couple hundred worth of groceries preparing for 25 college and post-college kids over Easter weekend, and when we came out the CV was still there. Darn. Wish I had had a 300Cforums card, etc., to put under the wipe.
