Ethanol Anyone?

Is anyone or has anyone used at least 10% ethanol gasoline in their C-SRT8 yet?

If so have you noticed any performance difference from a non ethanol gas formulary?

After filling up the other day I noticed the car did not seem to jump on 60 mph kick downs like it usually does. I've been trying to figure out what I was doing different. Then on Saturday I went back to the same station for mower gas and noticed a sticker that read, "Contains 10% ethanol." I've romped on it several times since then and me butt-o-meter definately tells me something is different because it doesn't seem to pull as hard.

This tank if about half done and I'll go back to my usual station to see if I notice a difference.

gasohol

I have had my 300 srt8 since last november, and have only been using the 10% ethanol blend since new, as that is all that is available in New York state. so I really can't compare to conventional reformulated gasoline. many states are coming on board with the ethanol program, so if you got it at one station, chances are your state ( I see you are in Texas) will have only gasohol in the near future, if not already. this is being mandated by state governments, to replace mtbe, an additive the is very dangerous when it leaks into groundwater.

I used E85 fuel in a rented 300 Touring last summer. Didn't notice anything different in performance at all (V6 remember, not Hemi), but 1/4 into the second tank the CEL came on... scary when you're 1200 miles from homewhen the CEL lit up... So it was "Quick, put some 93 octane back in there."

Took another fill from 1/2 empty and then use of half to 3/4 of that before the CEL went out.

I believe the owners manual says gasohol is ok, but it (the car) is not really designed for optimum performance using that alternative fuel mixture.

Pure energy models show that for every gallon ot gasoline a vehicle uses, it needs 1.5 gallons of ethanol to produce the same energy. I know the blending of gas in the US has started and of course this is the new "excuse" for the near $0.60 per gallon jump in prices over the last couple of weeks.....Gas costs about $1.00 per gallon less than it should here in the US, finally, and hopefully that will equal out soon.....

Just to add a little here on the "excuse" for high prices. The main reason (blame) for the higher prices is 'political unrest' (ha). The fact that Iran is 'tinkering' with missiles to take out oil barges and, also have their eyes on a nuclear warhead. In saying that, there will not be any 'equal' or price drops in the near future. Oil is trading at a near record high as I type this reply. Currently trading at $69.60. That equals over $3.00 per gallon for premium unleaded.

Thread back on main topic. I believe Whitdiamond is correct in the fact that it takes more ethanol to produce the same amount of energy. There was a thread about this a while ago and how you could augment the fuel to help out in producing more power.

The Commonwealth of Virginia (we're not a state apparently), switched two weeks ago. Mandated by the legislature. I have noticed no difference in performance. I did just run a bottle of Techron fuel injector cleaner though as a precaution.

Our company has 6 fuel stations, 60 pumps. We pumped all our tanks and cleaned them prior to the change over to get rid of the sludge. The price increase was due to a temporary shortage as we cycled from "old" gas to "new" gas-ahol as some like to call it. We actually had some locations run out of 93 octane.

A couple of years ago, my brother and nephew were working a job in the St. Louis area, where I live, that lasted over a year. They drove back and forth each weekend between Tulsa and St. Louis. St. Louis gas has 10% ethanol and outside of St. Louis and Tulsa does not contain ethanol. When using gas with ethanol, they complained of poorer performance and 2-3 mpg less than gas without ethanol.

The claim is that gas with 10% ethanol produces less emissions. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me, seeing that you burn more gas with ethanol that straight gas. Seems to me you would produce just as much emission or more.

Just my 2 cents. By the way, gas went up here again today to $2.69. The gas companies will have even higher profits this year.

So why are they acting like this is something new…… marketing gimmick much. I'm from Indiana & we had ethanol back in the 70’s when fuel prices started their “run for the border”. My dad used to fill up the family station wagon with the stuff. Then it just disappeared. Now it is back. One little town in Indiana was designated Biotown USA with GM making a big hoopla to sell more of their brand of vehicle- since it is the only brand that will run on the stuff. Go Yellow everyone!!
