Road&Track STS-V SRT8 E55 AMG

Quote " the SRT8 is the affordable brute, the bargin of the bunch and devilishly quick, but lacking the refinement of the Cadillac and the Mercedes-Benz".

Last Time I checked the Benz and the STS-V were pushing around $80,000 vs $42,000 for the SRT8 I sure hope you do get more refinment for an extra $40,000

OK fair enough, how are the others more refined? Let's get specific.

1. Interior trim for sure. I'm waiting til I see a really good looking interior kit for the car. It's got potential (space) but needs some sprucing up to look its best.

2. Ride on stock tires / shocks?

3. What else?

A honor roll

OK, so Road and Track put us on the A honor roll. Not slouchy competition, and I am pleased to be rated with such respected vehicles!

I read another article from one of those rags and it was the SRT8 VS. GTO. They showed that the SRT8 beating the GTO in every category, to include the 0-60 and, 1/4 mile. They even went as far as to say the GTO had hardly any room in the back seat and was too small. In the end, I thought it was a no brainer for them, but no...they awarded the trophy to the Goat. After that, I was wondering what type of pampering they recieved from GM

Found the article here...go to page 2 and notice the comparisons.

I honestly can't understand where all the extra money goes.

SRT-8 = $40,000 base

STS-V = $72,000 base.

WHERE DOES THE EXTRA $32K GO??

Granted, I think the STS-V is a sharp car and a great side by side comparison, I just want to know what is so worth $32,000 more!

A few months back, there was a comparo between the STS-V, M5, and AMG 55. The last page had a sidebar titled "And for 40K less". It detailed how the CHSRT-8 had arrived just as they were taking the title trio to the track.

So they took it along for giggles. Turned out to be right in the mix, numbers-wise. To me, this is one of the great things about SRT stuff. The ability to take on much more expensive machinery with no excuses.

Im pretty happy with the SRT package. Would I like to have an AMG? Well sure, but for the price difference? No thanks.

keep reading and you'll notice that the SRT8 has the fastest mph through the slalom and the most grip......so it definately ain't the suspension.............

refinement can be found in the quality of the plastics (which is STILL plastic either way) and the quality of leathers......

there's you're 32K......yeah right.......

the Benz's are no joke from an interior standpoint, and although the STSV is very nice inside, it's still a little dull.....not to say some wouldn't consider the SRT8 a bit dull either, but we're talking the price difference of............

well....... A WHOLE NOTHER FRIGGIN CAR........and a damn nice one at that
