ScRT-8? (supercharged SRT-8 from DCX)

Some of you who also lurk around LX Forums might have noted that one of our members claims that the 2008 SRT-8's will come with a supercharger.

http://www.lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?t=28396

Well guys, what do you think? Anyone here eavesdropped on anything similar?

I am not buying into it yet, it seems like the thread went in several different directions, each bringing up valid points. I don't think they would supercharge the SRT's and in a short amount of time that is needed to re-work the vehicle. I sure hope they don't as my resale value will go down :-)
You look at the pecking order
300c 340 hp
300c SRT8 425 hp
all SRT8's have the same hp mainly of 420-425 hp bumping up to 500 would make the first 2-3 years of the SRT8 almost obselete, I dont think they would work so hard on creating the SRT8 line to distinguish themselves from non SRT's and then boom raise it up again, which leads me to believe if they bumped up the SRT8 to 500hp would they raise the 5.7 hp up which would go into the Original hp of the 2005-07 SRT8 hp ratings. I dont think DCX's target is the Corvette for their 4 door sedan and station wagon. That is why they have the Viper. The only 4 door sedan that comes to mind right away is the BMW M5 with that much power, but again that is not the target for these vehicles as the price point . I could be wrong as the Audi S4 has gained almost 100 hp in 6 years but for DCX to jump in basically a 2 year span that much to compete with a car that is not in it's class does not seem realistic

I also think Cadillac is going to be upsetting alot of Corvette owners by continuing to put their flagship engines inside of different vehicles. The Super CTS-V is supposedly going to the have the Z06 engine. The Z06 has a Base retail price of $64,890 The Coupe Corvette has a base price of 43,690 The Pontiac GTO of $31,290 the 06 Cadillac CTS-V has a base price of 50,675
So with prices staying the same for next 2-3 years ( they wont but let's just say) the Cadillac Super CTS-V would top over the $70,000 mark that is not a chrysler price point as that would break into the Benz division and bust into the AMG division would take sales away from them and would basically go against what chrysler is for, as people are not going to spend 60,000 to 70,000 grand on a 4 door chrysler as they would for a Cadillac or Benz. Point being the original Camaro came under strong fire from Corvette owners as it was a cheaper car with nearly the same engine. The same can be said for the GTO now. Their flagship sports car is going to have an engine used by 4 door sedans, I highly doubt that Chrysler would drop a Viper engine into a 300 if it was even possible. It is easier for Cadillac to continue raise prices and have consumers pay for them, put chrysler would have a tougher sell in that rarified air of $70,000 for a 4 door. The CTS-V super is supposed to have the Z06 engine it, till now it is still speculation I know the CTS and CTS-V is their money market as it is their entry level vehicle but to have an option on your entry level car that pushes it up to around $70,000 is asking alot from the consumer. This is where the DCX arrangment comes in people WOULD by and do by $ $ 60,000-70,000 Benzes and for chrysler to cross that line it would hurt benz sales, when they could just go after that same cadillac market with the MB Lineup true it is domestic to domestic but Chrysler isn't seen as the same level marquee as the Cadillac in terms of Luxury or Nameplate in the Public's eye to justify a price range of $60,000 with extra speed/power comes extra price and I think that is a roadblock on where to level out the power that public is willing to spend from your company target Audience. With that being said the Viper is in a different class as it is a world class supercar that has proven itself and people are willing to spend 80,000 on a true supercar. Ok I am done :-)

I think they could put a supercharger on the SRT8, put some fender flares or other cheap mods on, and raise the price by $10,000. They keep the 5.7 as it is at about the same or slightly higher price point. Now they have done the following:

1. Massively increased their profit per unit sold (assuming they can warranty it without undue risk)

2. Put more pressure on CTS-V, STS-V, M5 (and also AMG; some cannibalization is inevitable because they are all 4 door performance cars)

3. Reduced the cannibalization of 300C sales because the price gap is much larger. I was a 300C shopper but got the SRT8 instead because it didn't cost much more.

I think it might, but much farther in the future.......and it probably won't be a 6.1............

next offering from DCX in an SRT8........392......normally aspirated............most likely by 2008-2009............

we can already hit the 530-550hp range with some bolt ons and upgraded internals right now.......without a blower......and without much tuning ability

The proof is NOT in the pudding.

Although I would be onboard if the pudding turns up with something in it

Gee, then it will be time for a trade in. I’m sure they have to figure out some way to get their customers to trade up for something new and better- or faster. Remember, horsepower is like a drug. We all would love more. Some mod their vehicles now to get just a little bit more out of them, while others wait for the manufacturer to offer more horsepower in the next generation. The SRT group is particularly adept at manipulating a “horsepower slut”-(one who always says yes give me more, more, more)

So if DCX were to announce tomorrow: Coming in 2007 a V-10 600 horsepower 300 C that lists for $55,000- any sluts........ummm I mean takers?
