Wheel Arch Extensions - Aussie SRT8 Spec

SRT 61 (in the state of Victoria) arrived at my dealer on Monday. I have been working interstate so have not seen her but DOMENIC went for a viewing and took a few pics. My sales guy rang me on Monday too to give me a very detailed description and mentioned the "wheel arch extensions". I said "what?".

I checked out the forum and could not find any North American SRT8 with wheel arch extensions so I waited until I got home last night to check out my US 300C broucher pictures. No extensions!

Check out the pictures (courtesy of DOMENIC's mobile phone).

Interesting. Can't say I feel one way or the other about them. Just interesting.

I have 22s with 265-35 in front and 295-30 on rear and I am already very close to rubbing, in fact my right rear may have rubbed once or twice on a hard turn. I don't think that would work for my set up, also not sure if I like the looks either.

That is the most novel way to 'lower' a car yet.

Most shorten the springs. But the Aussies lengthen the fenders.

A 'down under' innovation for sure!

Well first of all congrats on finally getting your beast. I’m not so sure about the wheel arch extensions. Why did they do that? Regardless, when you do finally pick her up and mash the gas you’re in for a major stiffy!! Enjoy the ride!

Hey guys, I'm the one who took the photos, not bad for a mobile phone eh! Just on those wheel arch extensions, I thought the car looked sensational but will reserve my exact opinion on the wheel archs until i see a normal 300c sitting right along side an aussie srt8 (with the extensions). You can look at photos all day but i always think that until you actually see them sitting side by side in the flesh then it's hard to make a call one way or the other. Regardless the car looks awesome with them and as already mentioned when the pedal gets mashed it's going to be stiffy time wheel arch or no wheel arch.

hemiwagn, don't believe it gives a lower appearance, more a wider appearance. This is probably to comply with an ADR (Australian Design Rule) which requires the wheel/tyre to have a spacing from the body, ie. very strict here that wheel/tyres do not protrude outside the body.

srt8danno, thanks mate.

I can assure you & Domenic I will try and keep my "body" under control the first time I mash the accelerator .

You can't tramp it until you've run it in properly though, so that might be a week or so away. It's easter, you might as well live in the car till monday, hopefully get the 1000th click up by tuesday, service wednesday, thursday skip work and race hoons down dandenong rd and enjoying the evening by doing a few chap laps with music loud and windows down.

I was just having fun about the car being lower. Actually I think the arches are a very clever way to comply with that rule and they look good. Who put the custom grille on already?
Also very neat to see a right-hand drive SRT8. some interior shots would be appreciated. Your camera phone does a fine job, BTW!
