Brake fix coming-SRT engineering

SRT engineers stated several times on last night's GCSRT8 chat session that the brake rotor grooving fix was coming by summer. No statement yet on any mileage or car age limits.

Interestingly they said that the rotor grooving problem was not showing up on the GC, only the sedans.

That would be great as I’ve just discovered my first rotor grooves. I’ve been looking at those puppies all the time just waiting (since I’ve spent 330 days reading everyone else’s problem) and sure enough the first signs of grooving have appeared with 2500 miles.

Well, you do have to use the brakes to get the grooves, Danno!

Strange as it may seem, my grooves have actually smoothed themselves out after my 5000 mile trip. There still are some minor grooves, but no where near what they used to be like.

use 'em

If you work the brakes and heat them up they won't squeal. The grooving is cosmetic and does not affect performance.

Hopefully when they fix this issue it will not compromise the performance!

I took mine in last month for the oil change and the service manager took a look at my rotors and promptly said they would be replacing them. When I picked my car up he said I wouldn't have a problem with the grooving again...sorry to say, my rear passenger rotor has a deep groove at the outer rim and lots of grooving.

I know it's not a performance issue, but it's more a maintenence and longevity issue. Plus, I don't mind the hastle of taking my car in for free brand-new pads and rotors every 3k miles. But, seriously, I hope the fix works.

I need to have my service manager call yours then.........I asked about rotor replacement and he just smiled and said "you know, those are performance brakes.......THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO DO THAT........

You should try driving 2500 miles without once hitting the brakes..... quite a challenge, but hey it sure was a lot of fun!

service mgr. speak

"They all do that."

First words taught to any service manager at a dealer. Mine said the same thing when presented with my brakes at 1000 miles. Some gentle persuasion and ego stroking and I had new rotors installed.

Didn't do much, but at least they are trying. These poor guys didn't even know what kind of oil goes in the car!

The way mine are wearing it looks like about 12-15k for rotor life. Price on rotors is very competitive, I don't believe the numbers, but if real then it's not so bad.

I own a few big trucks that have $450 rotors on them. It's all relative to what you're trying to stop. And just for fun, run your car 120-140 MPH and stomp these brakes.

They are the best brakes I have ever driven on a stock automobile. Unreal.
