Give up my GN for an SRT-8?

OK, so I've fallen in love with the 300C SRT-8. Took two for seperate drives (one with wife, one without) and without a doubt, this is the car for me. Snag is, I'd have to part with the GN to afford it, and have a car payment (which I swore I wouldn't do again). If I decide 3 years from now I want another GN, with my luck they'll be unobtainium $$$ .

Anybody gone through this? Given up a car they love for the SRT8? Comments/experience appreciated.

Haven't been there, but why are you agnonizing over this? If your GN is in good condition and you still like it, just keep the thing and get an SRT8 in a year or two when you can afford to have both and SRT's will be plentiful after the hoopla of the initial releases has faded.

Unless you are EXTREMELY lucky, you will not find another GN in comparable condition (assuming yours is good or better) and if you do, it won't be cheap.

I'm also a former 1987 GN owner; currently I’m driving a non-SRT 300C. The 1987 GN is still The Monster, bar none!!!
I redid the induction, chipped it, added front and rear stiffening braces, redid the suspension, etc. She would accelerate, corner, and top-end; mods are still plentiful and cheap. In hindsight I should have kept her; nothing compares to a trick GN!

Man I wish I had a GN to lock up in a garage for 30 years. I also say you should keep it and see if you can afford the SRT8 in a year or so.

Unless you need a daily driver and the SRT-8 would be it, I would do what jjs suggests. keep the GN since it's appreciating and buy the SRT-8 when they come down in value used.

Get rid of it

you are driving a death trap. Fast old cars are terrible risks to be enjoying on the street.

Can you stop? Most older cars have really crappy brakes. And those Boosty Buicks are really fast! Modern ABS systems cycle at speeds way beyond the old ones.

Air bags? Like them or not they can save you. New ones are much much better than previous generations.

Any electronic band aids like ESP? A little help can go a long way if it keeps you on the road!

All this only skims the edges of a newer high performance cars envelope. They are NOT a little better technologically. They are a LOT better.

Trying to tell me that your old Buick is as good as a new car is absolutely an impossible argument. How about a few laps around any road course? Think you could keep up?

Funny you should mention that. The SRT would be my daily allowing a leisurely retirement the GN. It would be nice to have the two black monsters in the garage.

Thanks guys, I've got a new 1 year goal!
