As proud as we are of the SRT-8 line-up, we are not in the same league with that Bimmer. But if you want to race a SRT-8 balls out in a standing mile you would lose. No mods of course. Dodge just hates to put limits on TOP SPEED.

I would like to see the M5 go against Moose or 1Bad4dr or... well, lots of folks with well modded SRT-8 rigs. There are several SRT-550s running around the country, and a few GSM supercharged rigs, too. I suspect there are more than a few running giggle gas, too. Any of them would be sweet to run against an M5, even if it were modded. The HEMI rulez.
Well I raced one a couple of weeks ago up to around 100 mph. He wanted to go and although I couldn't overtake him, I was right up with him. It's all about the driver and he didn't have the balls and he backed off in the bends. It's amazing how many of these guys can't handle the power they have and will only go so far till they get scared. It was real fun feeling the ESP take control even when it was off (as much as the 05's will let it) in the turns. The guy wouldn't even look at me, which is typical from my experience. BTW, no other traffic, no intersections, nothing.

i think the american m5's are a bit slower than their european counterparts and magazine reputations...they don't come with launch control and are a bit of a dog from a dead stop (that's why i was curious to run them, i think it will be closer than people expect). bmw really screwed up that one. and with a low torque figure (relatively speaking) i'm not sure the bimmer would do much better in the typical public roadway rolling start scenario...well at least not unless you start playing xbox with the downshift paddle.

When I raced the guy from the line I was expecting him to leave me in the dust. It was A LOT closer race than that, matter of fact not that much difference from the 8.

As for top end, aren't the M5 (US editions) limited to 155? And since an M5 weighs 4012 lbs and only has 383 lb-ft of torque, the SRT-8 should smoke it from a standstill or a roll as well as outrun it on top end. Depends on the driver, of course, but all things being equal, the SRT-8 is more than adequate in experienced hands.
dont forget M5's launch control. It will smoke us in every way and at every speed with even just a semi-good driver.
that's just it...as i mentioned, the u.s. m5's don't have launch control so i wouldn't be surprised if the srt8 could take it off the line and make for a really good race.
