Sport Truck tires on SRT8?

I noticed the Porsche Cayenne Turbo comes stock with 275/40R20 tires. All but one tire in that size on Tirerack.com says it's for sport trucks. What is the difference between those tires and passenger car tires? Can they handle just as well? The SRT8 isn't exactly light, but still quite a bit less than a Cayenne.

I am running 295/45/20's on my rear tires, but I have widened the rims to 11.5" too so I am not really sure what teh stock tires will handle.

what did it cost you to widen your wheels?

You can run 295 Toyo Proxes front and rear, with out modifying the rims, pricy but looks good.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the stock rims were 9" wide. Every tire website I've checked says the widest rubber on a 9" rim is 275.
And I just went to the Toyo website and the only 295R20 I see is a 25 series, which is nearly 3" shorter than 245/45R20 in overall diameter. The 275/40R20 Toyo Proxes 4 have he exact same overall diameter as the stock 245s that mine came with.

But if you have 295s on yours or have a pic please post it. Thanks.

Would be nice to see some pics.

My buddy has been joking with me that I should take my Ram SRT10 (22 x 10’s) and slap them on my SRT8. Of course this is the same friend that insists I should take my Viper engine and slap that in the SRT8. Swappable parts…..works for me!

I'm not a tire expert, though I've busted plenty while working in a garage. But this site has more than you'll ever want to know: http://www.canadiandriver.com/articl...tiresafety.htm Executive summary - Light Truck tires are sturdier with stiffer sidewalls to increase load carrying capacity (that would probably mean they are heavier than passenger car tires, too which would increase unsprung weight Passenger tires have softer sidewalls for a better ride and will also handle better. Bottom line, if you want to go fast and handle well, stick with the passenger car tires. If you want to haul more junk in your trunk, go for the LTs
