Talking New SRT8 owner, need help with Brake issue

Hello everyone, I picked up my 300 C SRT8 (Black, Opt Grp II, sunroof) last week at a Dealer here in Dallas. The dealer had bought the car in April 06 after it had been on tour in several auto shows across the country, they sold it to me as a used car with 550 miles on it. Kind of a weird deal, but I was the beneficiary-I think I got one hell of a deal!

That all said, I absolutely love the car! I have had a 96 740i, 98 Vette, 03 LS430 and multiple SUv's, and this car is absolutely the best thing on wheels that I have ever owned. The issue with the brake squeak and dust annoys me, but the threads I have read on the rotors being grinded really concerns me. Is there a recall on this from Chrysler, and if so, will the dealer voluntarily offer to fix? I stopped by another dealer last week and was told that there was nothing that could be done about the sqeaking or dust, is this correct?

Thanks in advance for the help, I will look forward to being part of the commuinty.

Welcome to the forums uthornssrt8. Ask and you shall receive! Your worries are over when it come to the brake issue. I was one of the beta testers and it's a thing of the past. FOLLOW THIS LINK You will be pleased to see there is a real fix for this.

There was a TSB several months ago for the squeal and some have had replaced the pads with varying success. This is for the squeal ONLY. The rotor scoring and dust have not been addressed by DCX in spite of their continued promises a fix would be forthcoming. Interestingly, the scoring seems to smooth out at about 6000 miles.

Read through the thread and if you want a real end to all your concerns & put your name on the list for a set of pads.

Congrats on your new ride and welcome...........I won't bother repeating Rambit, but I had the TSB done and the squeal went away completely.......i also noticed that the rotor scoring has either slowed or has evened out and is more of a cosmetic hassle(scoring and dust) than any kind of performance issue...........I have 13K on the ODO and the brakes are one of my favorite things about this car........besides the 370ci of sweet Hemi music that emminates from under the hood of course

not a problem

The entire brake thing is a non-issue.

As of 10000 miles plus, scoring is greatly reduced but still visible. No squeal. Tons of dust!

Note that they only squeal if you don't use them aggressively enough. Try a 100 mph ABS stop and they'll be quiet for several days!

A big non-problem as they are some of the finest brakes I have ever driven on!
