Researching the competition

As I was going through my usual weekly commute from San Antonio to Charlotte, NC, I was surprised to find an interesting car in my Hertz #1 Gold President's Circle spot: A brand new Hertz Shelby Mustang GT. Since I'm going to have the thing all week, I thought I'd do a little research/experimentation with it (all for the educational benefit of our forum members, of course) to see how it stacks up against my CSRT-8. The first challenge I've encountered is that the traction control on/off button doesn't work. The second problem is that the owner's manual (for handy information like traction control fuse placement) is mysteriously missing from the car. The car has 1,900 miles on it, so maybe somebody at Hertz has already recognized that some of its customers might be interested in disabling the traction control . If anybody knows where this fuse is and can tell me, it might make the testing process more effective. Remember that I'm doing this completely in the spirit of altruism - just taking on the mission in the interest of my fellow forum members. Any and all suggestions around testing techniques and specific performance tests to be completed are welcome. Thanks in advance for your help.

besides the unique paint job it only has 30 additional hp above the gt so it still isn't going to be a match for your srt8.

Thanks Ken, you are absolutely right. I was just wondering if the TCS could be disabled through the removal of the appropriate fuse. Since the owner's manual has been removed from the car, it is difficult to determine which fuse is the correct one to try. The fuse box under the hood is not labeled except for the number of each fuse. I've looked around on some of the Mustang forums, but haven't been able to find a fuse chart or PDF copy of a Mustang GT owner's manual. If anyone on our forum has access to either of these, I would sure appreciate the help.

I thought I saw a Shelby rental the other day when I drove past the Hertz lot. Guess I wasn’t seeing things after all.

I am planning my annual trip to the US in late September and the company I work for has excellent corporate rates with Hertz.

I saw they had the Shelby listed and I looked at the daily rate and went . It was exorbitant.

Guess it will be another Town Car to tour in

Let's see....couple the very reasonable expectation on Hertz's part that renters will drive the dog**** out of the car with the novelty value and the limited number available...and you're surprised? What would you charge your horsepower-obsessed brother in law for 24 hours of unsupervised fun in your SRT8? And he's...sort of...family. Hertz rents to total strangers.

On a side note...at least you know all rental cars can rev higher in all gears (redline is just a starting point) , have full manualised auto's (cause no-one ever uses the clutch) and can wind off the clock in any street long enough to accomodate...not to mention how the handbrake always seems to come on anytime a change of direction is required...all in all rental cars are always a lot of fun
