Unhappy Quaife Whine

Hi everyone.

Just picked up my Mag after having a Quaife ATB installed.
After 100 miles I picked up a rear end whine that is very noticeable at speeds above 50. The "whine" is most prevalent when applying just enough fuel to put a slight load (like holding a steady speed on a nice flat straight road).

Anyone have a similar experience?

I will head back to the speed shop in the AM but I though I listen here for any words of wisdom as I don't believe this should happen at all.

Thanks.
Phil

Welcome to the forums. Sorry you’re having that kind of trouble. I’ve not read of anyone having this kind of problem. I definitely would take it back and hope the shop makes it right. Good luck.

did you leave the stock gears in the new rear, or did you up the ratio?

often a higher ratio can lead to gear whine.

they might have done a mistake either in the pinon depth or the backlash. What you can do is go to the dealer and ask of rt he pinon depth and the backlash specifications(since they will have it) and then go back to the store you installed them at and give them the correct measurments.

Anytime I change rear end stuff especially gears I take it to a shop that did them a million times, because the whine you get turns you nuts in a few minutes.

Not true.

No matter what ratio you put in any car, if it is installed correctly ie pinon depth and backlash then you shouldnt get any whine.
