new rotor TSB - FYI for all...

just an FYI...
I saw the rotors today on a service person's SRT8 charger...
so everyone knows this...

the part number is the same...
meaning that the rotor goes on the car with the slots going the same way...

in my mind this is crazy...
but let's here from our own DR. Z

in case anyone is still wondering what I mean...
the left rotor slots are grooved to feed the "whatever you want to call it", (dust, rotor metal, brake pad gunk) out of the rotor area...

guess which way the right side's are grooved - same way...
meaning they are backwards...
or is the the left side is backwards???

either way...
the rotors are grooved the same for either side...
in my mind - that is not right...

so if someone has these rotors yet...
please post some pics...

and if anyone knows if this makes a difference or not...
chime in as well...

oh and the 07's are all this way as well that are coming - so it has to be right...
right?

Holy confusion CB! That's enough to give someone a real headache. Now I'm very curious as my dealer ordered mine yesterday.

In other words, there's only one part number for the front rotors and one part number for the rear rotors? So the slots face one way on the left side of the SRT8 and they face the other way on the right side of the SRT8? That's not good! I guess that means the rotors have straight (as opposed to curved) internal cooling fins and DCX was too cheap to make a left and a right part when they did the slotting. Why am I not surprised?

In the meantime, I installed the gigantic StopTech 6-piston big brake kit on my SRT8 this afternoon. I'll post some photos tomorrow. It's very cool.

I dont see the harm behind it(function wise), ie the slots facing opposite directions. Its only a cosmetic thing, that no one will notice unless they walk around the car.

That is what I am waiting to see. I love the way they look on AJ's SRT can't wait to see them on the Dr. Z of brakes own personal ride.

Since we were going out to dinner, I was a bit time constrained on the installation, so I didn' take as many photos of the process as I would have liked. And I still haven't had a chance to fully bed the brakes. I made a couple of quick runs around the neighborhood and then went back to change for dinner. So far, so good. The pedal feel is firmer than stock and, once the zinc plating wore off the swept portion of the rotors, the bite was really good.

Rather than hijack this thread on the TSB slotted rotors, I'll start a new thread on the StopTech BBK and do as much documenting of the installation process as my limited set of photos allows. It was a very easy installation. The hardest part was getting my wife to come down to the garage to help with the brake bleeding. She hates pushing on that pedal!

One PN for the fronts... and one for the rears.

Here is a pic of the fronts..... my parts guy ordered the AB rears, but the non-slotted (AA) parts arrived instead!

Chris, great post and thanks for the heads up. I think that is wierd.

If Dave states it's not a great way to do the fix, guess what guys and gals...it's not a great way to do the fix. I guess time will tell

Again, nice post and thanks for the heads up. That could help reduce a lot of confusion coming from this TSB.

Moose.
