Okay since we are on this topic I have a question...on my dash by the clock the button reads ESP off.....in the park position if I push the button a car with the slippery tracks appears by my gauges..if I push it a second time it goes away....I pressumed I was shutting it off...I was driving up a slippery road on the way home and the light came on with the car with slippery tracks...please explain the exact motions I must go through to disengage it...

The reason I want to disengage it is other threads I have read said you lose all control of the car if this engages..this doesn't seem to safe to me but I could be wrong?

Losing all control of the car if ESP engages is a misnomer. It simply means that the car’s computer is going to regulate the speed of your wheels your ABS system, and a host of other different items to keep your car under control. Its goal is to keep your car on the pavement and not skidding out of control. So there is nothing wrong with it being on. When you read people wanting to turn it off it usually means they are wanting to take complete control over these areas of the car….during times they go racing, do burnouts, doughnuts, drifting, what have you. The “nanny” or “momma” (as it is sometimes called) will prevent you from going out and breaking your rear end lose and tearing up the roads. So if you want to show off to your neighbor by burning some rubber you’re going to have to turn it off.

I’m not a mechanic…so I hope you understand what I’ve tried to explain. If not perhaps someone else can do it better.

So unless I'm imagining it, we can turn ours "off" as well.
Yup. Works for me everytime too and belive me there is a difference, that is unless I'm imagining it as well.
