71 in a 45 on brand new roadway
Oh well, after not getting a speeding ticket in over 25 years, I got pulled over on a newly built spur of I-95 near the Palm Beach Airport. Somehow these 300's attract lots of attention, especially from people in cars with fancy light bars in the windshield.
He was a friendly type, and for a short time I thought it might have resulted in a stern warning. The cop said he could have written it for $350 (they were in the process of planting palm trees in the median) but since I seemed to be listening to him, and wasn't threatening, he downed it to $200.
I came home, registered in an online safe driver course, and knocked it out before dinner. This way the points from the ticket immediately evaporate. Upside is that now I can present this safe certificate for a 10% discount on insurance for the next three years.
The worst part is now I have to mind my P's and Q's on the Florida Turnpike, the home of average 90 mph driving.
I went to "traffic school" in Mesa, Tempe and Phoenix when I lived in that area in Arizona, getting out of several tickets that way. They didn't communicate so they didn't know I had already gone to traffic school in the neighboring municipality.
I haven't heard anyone say that NY has that option.
Va is just thick with Radar these days. I make the 495/95 rt 66 run all teh time and it is easier to count the number of days you dont see local or state cops shooting radar.
Try going 55 on these roads and you will get killed. hell on the 95 run from 495 to Baltimore if your going slower then 70 your getting stepped on by everything.
I'm pretty sure if you where pulled over on 1287 that it was a STATE TROOPER! They now have a NO PLEA agreement which means they will not make a deal with you because of new regulations. You need to get an attorney or look on-line and find some one who was a ex-cop who now defends people who get tickets. I've seen some thing on-line before. I'll try and find it for you!
It was an officer of the "New York State Police". The Charge was based on Officer's "Direct Observation". Speed verified by "Radar", Model was "Stalker Dual". There was no radar officer. The arrest type was "Radar".
The matter will be handled at the "Rye Town Court" at 10 Pearl Street, Port Chester. In the case description, it's called a "Local Criminal Court".
I can answer by mail; I do not have to appear in person.
Alright, I've been following your thread for a while untile the "squid" comment. I have to admit, I LOVE the CORPS!!!! Went through Quantico for OCS, got NPQ'd two weeks prior to graduation, but now am a 1635 designator (intel) for the NAVY! Matter fact, I'm currently serving at MCB Hawaii until I go home next week. W/ all that said, I've worked for Suffolk County's DA office in Major Crime, Cleveland's Procecutor's office as well as Canton City, in Ohio and currently practice law on defense. The last time I got pulled over was by a ground pounder and according to reg's, even a reservist is obligated to show Military ID. When I did, he let me go and I didn't even have to go into my typical prosecutor's crap. So, military is military. Let's leave the squid @##$% alone. Dad was Force Recon in Vietnam. If he can deal w/ a few squids, so can you!

Geez, topgun, you really went off the deep end on Daugherty...Can't we all just agree to pick on the Air Farce? Hey, I had no idea servicemembers were obligated to show their ID cards when pulled over...that's cool, but I'd feel like I was trying to weasel out of the ticket...which I would be, hehehe.

Lol, he's a squid... what'd you expect? Always jealous of the boys that get to go in and get their hands dirty ok ok ok, I'll save the rest of my ribbing for the flyboys. But seriously, don't get your panties in a bunch over it.
We were actually told that it was MEF policy to show our ID cards so the officer knew he was dealing with a member of the Military. So I always handed my Drivers Lic, insurance card and my Military ID placed on the top of the pile
Is the court date getting nearer? That ticket I got had a court date the was only 8 days away! By the time the ticket actually hit their system and they could tell me what my fine was I had to have it out the next day to avoid a warrant. I've NEVER had a date that was so close, usually you have a few weeks at the very least.
Court date is Dec. 26. I have to appear then or have mailed in a plea by then. If I plead guilty, it says a penalty will then be decided by the court. There's no phone number to call to find out the fine or anything.
I guess I'll have to ask a lawyer if I can try anything. According to a previous post on the thread, NY State Highway Patrol (I guess that's the same as NY State Police?) now won't negotiate.

That is a state trooper who gave you the ticket. There is no other police department that can issue highway citations where you were located. NY is very big on jurisdiction.
Now about that no bargaining stuff. I will try and contact my friend who is a state trooper....
