First Winter Drive

Took her out today for her first snow experience... ummm.... YIKES! The main roads were ok but our side streets were an adventure. Fun today because it wasn't tooooo bad out but I don't think she's gonna fly with her existing shoes for too much longer. Here is where I'd like your opinions (I know it's been beat to death but it's good timing and other new owners like me can benefit from a re-hash).

The following are the tires I'm considering (all at TireRack and all 18"s):
Bridgestone Blizzak LM-25 4X4 (Light Truck/SUV Performance Winter)
Bridgestone Blizzak DM-Z3 (Light Truck/SUV Studless Ice & Snow)
Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow (Light Truck/SUV Studless Ice & Snow)

Would LOVE to hear opinions on snow functionality (I'm in Ohio... they'll be a LOT of dry/cold days mixed with a few weeks of thick nasty stuff FYI), performance and durability.

The rims I think I've narrowed it down to are:
American Racing Muscle Rogue Black w/Mach Lip (would LOVE to see a Photoshop of these on a black SRT8 if anyone has the skills)
Borbet Type TS Bright Silver Paint (kinda like the C stockers but not chrome).

Thoughts and impressions wanted. Must order soon given today's experience.

Thanks everyone!

i am in Connecticut and survived with 200 lbs of sand in the trunk. 20K miles on tires now so more worried this year. the big issue is starting from a stop on a hill (and worse turning at same time). The ESP does work great in terms of getting you up hills you could never get up with out them. going to snow tires with an extra set of rims is just a pain in the butt.

I agree about it being a pain but I have to drive too much (and in the snow belt) to take any chances. Sorry Dubster, I meant to specify rims on a Black SRT. The one they show in TireRack is silver like the photo above.

Mr Happy, another forum member had just written up feedback and provided a video for the Blizzak DM Z3 if. He actually had video with ESP on and off. Very impressive video to say the least. His write up was really well also.

Mr Happy Snow Bird! Here are a few threads that may give you some insight on what you’re looking for. The first two my JMatt were the very first SRT8 reviews on snow and ice. Since JMatt is from Indianapolis….next door to Ohio….thought you might be interested. For some reason JMatt edited his posts, but you can still read what he had to say as others have quoted him. There is also a review of some blizzaks from our Alaskan friends and finally a nice thread from Dave Z and what he did for winter tires. Hope this helps!

I live in Ohio, and have a 20 mile commute in the AM to work. I took DaveZ advise and bought the same Blizzak/Borbet combo. Have not run into any snow yet,but I am ready. I did drive last winter on a very slick morning on the Goodyears and all i can say is it was frightening. Snows will be much better. I loose a bunch of preformance when it is dry. Much more side wall lean and the traction control will kick on even though there is no tire spin. All I can figure is the car can detect the deflection of the side wall of the softer tires. I guess it gives me peace of mind if the going does get a little rough. Believe me as soon as March comes around the 20's go back on!!

I am using the Blizzak LM 25 4X4 tires and they are very quiet and perform well in the dry. They are more of a performance tire which is why I chose them.
The roads where I live get cleaned fast, so I do drive on dry roads more than snow covered ones, and I do drive an SRT8 on the highway allot, so I feel more comfortable with a performance snow tire with a higher speed rating because you never know when you got to GOOOOOO

The LM 25 have rounded edges instead of being square so the look good too...
