06 SRT-8 problems

Has anyone had problems with automatic headlights not working. Dealership cant figure out the problem. And also has anyone experienced the car still running for a few seconds after you cut it off and pull the key out. The dealership said that this is common in the 07 models, for some reason i dont believe them.

well.. I do have somewhat of a issue with the amount of light or darkness that is required to trigger the auot lights. For example, today I was driving in NW Iowa, it was snowing and blowing pretty good...I bet it was less then 1/2 to 1/4 mile visibility and the lights didn't come on. I had to turn them on. But last week on the way home in the late afternoon driving through the shadows of the hills, the lights come on...

Is that what you mean???

Sounds like you have a bad sensor that kicks the autos on. I’ve never had this problem. Nor have I ever heard of anyone having the car not shut off after you turn it off. I think they call that Engine Run On or DIESELING. Definitely not normal. I would take it somewhere else if you can’t get any answers.

Found an article on Google about Engine Run On. I thought this only happened to the old time engines???? Gear heads out there?

Engine run-on, Dieseling

This is a different problem than dieseling. Sounds like there is an ignition switch problem and a light sensor problem. That's best case scenerio...worst case scenerio would be one of those erratic electrical problems that get worse as the car gets older.

Question: When did the problem/s start and did they start at the same time? Is the car not shutting off problem getting more frequent? I too, have never heard of those problems from any members here.

Moose.

Thanks Moose for clarifying this for me. I couldn’t imagine seeing a beautiful SRT8 dieseling like cars used to do long ago (or the ones I remember at least)

Hope he gets it resolved.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't there an option in the EVIC that will turn the lights on when the wipers are running? I know it doesn't solve your direct problem with the lights coming on when its dark, but if this option is turned on then they should automatically come on when the wipers run for a bit. Just something else to check, the option may be disabled in your EVIC and thus why they are not coming on with the wipers.

The car only has 3,000 miles on it. The autoheadlights worked when I first got the car, then they just quit working. The car still running issue started when i had about 2,000 miles on it. The car has been at the dealership since monday. They said that the still running is common in 07's, they say thats what chrysler told them. I just want it fixed. Well see what they say today.
