I thought this was normal. Never owned a car with red anti-freeze...lol. But on a serious note it really caught my attention when I changed the thermostat. My first thought was the anti-freeze was going bad. I was going to ask you guys on here but it totally slipped my mind. Very happy to see this thread...

So, did you just change the coolant and then everything is fine? I'm dying at work because I can't go mess with it right now! I'm going to try and run to the dealer tomorrow morning.

I'm with you on the red coolant, I have no idea what is normal.

Eric

1/2 quart for 2000miles???
I go from oil change to oil change (5000 miles mobile 1)without using one drop!
Or is this normal for a srt8?

I can't say I know what's normal because I only have 2500 miles on the car and 2000 on this batch of oil. I'm talking about going from a little ways on the full side of the line(like 1/4 to 1/2 inch) - down right to the full line. That 1/2 quart was just an estimate.

I've also heard that a little oil comsumption is normal for a big hp V8. My car used to smoke a little upon start-up when brand new...another thing I heard was kind of normal for the SRT8's. Now that I'm more broken in I've noticed it does not smoke on start-up at all anymore.

Also, here's a reply from someone else about the cloudy coolant I just received for what it's worth:

Quote:
went and got my car serviced and whyle their I had them look over the coolent issue. I was standing right next to the Tech when he was looking over my engine and I pointed out to him the coolant. He informed me that everything was fine and its nothing to be alarmed about. He was also kind enough to replace my radior cap that would seep out coolant from time to time. Now everything is working and looking 100%.
Everyone: check your coolant and reply back with what you find!!!

Eric

I have to put a quart of oil in every month (1000+ miles)or so. However I drive like im on a race track. Especially when you stay in stick mode and keep the rpms way up like I do. Every weekend I see 171mph. So I dont think its a problem, its just my driving style.

I've done nothing, I told you I totally forgot about it. I will check my coolant when I get home...see if I can take a pic of the factory t-stat with the white gunk on it too.

Mine looks the same - at least from the outside. One question I have in looking at your pictures: Was the engine hot when the photo was taken? Your coolant level is WAY over the "max fill" line - at least when it is cold. Mine now rests about an inch over the "min" line and the engine ice cold.

And does anybody know if a water mix is good for red coolant as it is for green? My car runs at 216º consistently with no mix other than what came from the factory...

Since we are talking about the color of anti-freeze. Where the heck can i get some of the red stuff. I only see green anti-freeze in auto stores. Is this a chrysler only product?

When I had my system reservoir crack and break this past summer it was the opinion of this board that nothing but the red even touch it’s delicate fill tube (like water) I just went to the dealership and purchased the coolant from them. I believe some auto parts places carry that specific type now. Red is red.

I guess the next step is to have it flushed, express concern at the dealer and then see if it clouds up again. I'm hoping to get it in on Monday or Tuesday.

Could it just be bad coolant from the factory? It just seems like I'm not the only one with this problem...it doesn't seem like a blown headgasket, the car runs perfect. Oil level is basically steady - not falling or rising.
