That's 430 hp from a 3.5 liter engine with no supercharger or turbo? That would really be something.
We hear stories about what the 6.1 could really do with proper tune, too. So far we've never seen one actually make that power have we? I'd think by now that someone would have stripped off the electronics, put in a full-custom fuel system and dynoed the 6.1 to show that real potential.
Suppose these are "leaks" to entice people to buy the cars but actually total BS?
the 335i has a 3.0l inline six which is twin turbo charged as magnesium pearl baby pointed out, considering is a turbo charged car, i wouldn't be surprised about the potential for power increases as we all know, just by tweaking the turbo and tune settings, it's quite easy to get massive amounts of increases in power with relatively less effort and expense. first time BMWs have gone into forced induction as well i think? quite interesting, might go and take one out for a test drive although i think the design is ugly. oh well, sweet engine that's for sure.

Actually BMW sold the oddly named 745i back in the 1980's which was a turbo 3.3 litre setup -- and before that, the 2002 turbos were loved as great little sportscars.
I have to say I've driven the current M5, and it's an awesome car. I'm a little surprised by the story as the M5's a good 200 pounds lighter and 90hp stronger, with 2 additional cogs to keep it in the ideal powerband.

Maybe he was in 400 HP mode. :-) I'm surprised nobody mentioned that little "feature" yet.
Can you imagine how much we'd complain if our cars started off in "325 hp" mode?
Didn't notice about the turbos on the 335i. Now that's a car I would definitely rather lease than own. Let the turbos cook that little engine, then give them back the problem.
If I remember correctly, the 335i only pushes about 6-7 pounds of boost...not like so many of the "super" turbos on the road pushing 14+ psi. At 6-7 pounds it could be more reliable for the long term, and you can also believe how they can turn up the boost for some crazy performance...albeit potentially harmful to the motor.

beemer used two tiny turbos so there wont be much tuning for big hp on this motor without buying some new ones. They're sized for insta-boost, not as many options with micro turbos. The idea is great though, as 330 said, you get insta-torque practically at idle!
It's got some great press. I'm just not a fan of the exterior styling.
