07 SRT8 Shift Programming!?

OK, been tinkering around with the new 8 now for a couple weeks. I've noticed several things. One is the shift programming. Bandit did a write up a while back about the engineer who came out and programmed his car specifically to eliminate the 1-2 shift hesitation. Part of the programming from what i can remember involved (in autostick) shifting to 2nd without driver input. Mine does this. Nice for when you miss your shift [shift late] (the computer shifts for you) but. For me that's part of 'autostick' if i miss it.. my bad.. do better next time. I found this especially annoying last night when i tried to heat up the tires a bit and autosticked to 1st and it shifted to second automatically and dropped power and wheel speed.

Just an observation. I'd like to hear what everyone thinks about this feature.

Here is the thread i'm referring to Bandit posted:

Yeah, I remember the guy. He went by another name then. He couldn't give enough praise for his "fix". He seemed very happy at first, promising all of us would soon have the new programming. I stopped following the thread long ago. From what I remember nothing became of this and we're still waiting for a TSB. All I know is I'm glad that one never came out for us. Are you saying yours came this way from the factory?

Yup, that's it Rambit. Straight from the dealer. I said it then, and i'll say it now. Shifting for me in autostick is NOT cool.

Justin I just read the post by Bandit. Not bad to have an SRT engineer fly out to see your car. I’m sure he was pissed that it didn’t act up. Now as I understand it on my car for example when I have it in autostick between 1-2 if I don’t catch the shift just right I hit the rev limiter. With this fix instead of hitting the rev limiter it will go ahead and shift it for you? Doesn’t this take away from the autostick “feel?” I must confess I don’t do a lot of autosticking as I want it to behave like my Ram SRT10…. So your car already does this? But you still can have the hesitation that the older tranny people report?
Good points and great information to discuss. Thanks for sharing.

Danno. I do not have the shift hesitation at all, never has showed up. You can roll around at all rpms in autostick 1st untill yhou get to 6200 then the computer shifts into second. And i believe i left it in 2nd once and it shifted to 3rd automatically also. I read about several guys having to anticipate the shift and actually shift early, say 500 or 1000rpm before the intended shift. I don't have any hesitation from the time i move the autostick to the time it shifts. If i move the selector at 5900, it shifts at 5900 not 6200 or anywhere inbetween.

Thanks... I was wondering if that was indeed true of our 07s but hadn't had the stones to try and rev limit it yet! Now I can! (Try anyway)

I never thought to 'try' it really. I just accidentally shifted late and by the time i hit the autostick it was in second already.

Ok I’m on the same page now….duh! Thanks for the explanation. So do you feel your autoshift has been “emasculated” so to speak as opposed to the ones who haven’t had this adjustment performed yet? I noticed Rambit states that he is glad that one hasn’t come out for us. Forgive my idiocy just trying to get a grasp on what the vibe is. Thanks!

I like the upgrade and dislike it.

Like: Shifts right at 6200 and won't let you 'mess up' in a race. I'm glad they fixed the shift 'hesitation' I've read where guys were having to shift early in order to shift at a later RPM. On mine, if i shift at 6000, it's going to shift at 6000!

Dislike: Autostick is that AUTOSICK. Not autostick untill 6200 then it is going to shift no matter what! Like i said earlier, I tried to do a burn out and it spun like crazy in first and was going to try ot hold it there. Well, it hit rev limit and instead of being about to throttle it and keep it high in the RPM. It shifted to 2nd and dropped RPM substantially. Not Good, i feel. And if i wanted to run it in first up to 6200rpm and let it sit on the rev limiter for an hour. LET ME DO IT!

I hear ya!

So those wishing for the shift hesitation fix may need to think long and hard as it may be a bitter pill to swallow. The autoshift may not be the way they want it to be after the update. It sounds like the autostick will become like what the 5.7’s have…..I think their's automatically shifts for you rather than hitting the limiter….I could be wrong.
