Thumbs up SRT 8 Track Night (including Meister)

Tonight, well, technically yesterday now. I drove a Jeep GC SRT-8 and met up with: Fast56k, Bobf, Moose, HalV48, and yes, Meister himself. Agreat time was had by all. Well, not all actually. HalV didn't, but I'll let him tell you about that. I got five runs in, all in a bone stock (not even tint) 2007 GCSRT-8.

7:21 pm
First run: Right off the street. Tire psi = 41 Water temp 215

R/T = .139
60' = .1945
1/8 = 8.806
1/41 = 13.743
mph = 100.00

8:00 pm
Second Run: Tire psi = 35 With Fast56k in the other lane.
I got out of the hole quickly, then he charged past me !!!

My R/T = .141 56k's R/T = .149
60' = 1.948 60' = 2.071
1/8 = 8.804 1/8 = 8.761
1/4 = 13.748 1/4 = 13.472
mph = 99.00 mph = 104.70

9:21 pm
Third Run: Water temp = 185
Head to Head (deliberately) vs Trailblazer SS with some mods. Trailblazer owner was a fellow "Car Guy". He had done some mods and expected better times. This race was over from the start. What a difference by lowering the engine temp 30 degrees from previous runs!

GC SRT-8 Trailblazer SS
R/T = .093 R/T = .154
60' = 1.865 60' = 2.127
1/8 = 8.590 1/8 = 8.881
1/4 = 13.454 1/4 = 13.749
mph = 101.04 mph = 100.77

Fourth Run was a 13.5
Fifth was 13.6 with a .003 R/T
Last run was 13.7

Observations: BONE STOCK the Jeep SRT-8 launches hard off the line, but shifts into 4th before the end of the 1/4. (nothing some more HP and/or gearing can't fix). Heat Soak is AN ISSUE.
I did 13.7 at "Normal Operating Temp." (215).
I did 13.4 when the temp was 185.
I did 13.5, 13.6 then 13.7 again and it seemed to be directly corelated to the temp.

Anyone know anythng about the thermostats in these things? (j/k)

I saw Meister run a 13.08, he may have run better, I was uusally in the staging lanes and couldn't see.

I saw Moose run a 12.71 at about 121 or 122mph!

Fast56k & Bobf both turned good numbers in the low 13's

There were some other LX owners there too, doing Chrylser and Dodge proud!

Some nice times Dan . Sounds like you had some fun . I drove the GC SRT-8 at a track event and the pull is amazing off the line . The gearing makes it a little less fun about midway through a run but like you said , easy to overcome . The 60' times are awsome with these traction capable beasts . Glad to see a good time was had . Seeing as if my track(Englishtown , NJ) is closed for the winter (remember those) all I can do is live vicariously through you warmer climate fellas .Take care , Mike .

hey dan,

it was good to meet you and some of the others and put more friendly faces with their names. sucks about hal as i was really looking forward to seeing his car's potential. the bad luck didn't stop there as moose had a fuel leak on his way home. at least he got that fixed half way home as that could have resulted in worse!

keep in mind that firebird SUCKED last night (as ussual) so everyone was at least .3s off of what their times should have been. traction was so bad that guys were nearly running into the walls in mild 12 second cars. finally enough people complained that firebird actually shut the track down around 9pm to prep it...which didn't even help too much unless you had at the minimum drag radials. hal's sacrifice gave them a bit of time to lay down a second prep which finally gave me a decent launch and my best et...thanks hal. i still had to make the run with esp on though.

anyways, the racing sucked but the people were great!

Sounds like a nice time mixed with some bad luck? Now I’m curious. Hope everyone is ok and made it back home safely.

Sounds like a great turn-out, but not so great conditions.

What happened to HAL? Only thing I can think of is a broken half-shaft...

I didn't want to say that out loud.

Hey Dan, great to see you posted the fun last night.

Here's how my night went.

Took me 1.45 minutes to get to the track (traffic everywhere)

Took another 1.10 to get to the starting line

Things got much better, as I ran into Chiromikey. His car is awesome! Jet black E55 slightly lowered with some bad a$$ looking black wheels with polished inserts. Not to mention he's got a custom header build and smaller pulley on his supercharger. All that, (not very much) and he was at 11.6 (not sure what trap speed). Now that's sick!

One time I ran Chiromikey and I got off the line, not great, but better than him... I was halfway or more down the track and I was moving out. All of a sudden out of nowhere Chiro comes flying by me like a jet airplane! Damn it! I can never beat that guy, LOL...

Then I was in the staging lanes and looked over and saw a SRTJeep. "Hey, nice,...wait a minute, that thing has a license plate that says DanRltr!" You mean there's another one!" "wait until I tell Dan about this, LOL." Then coming from the track, fighting traction and can't wait to line back up, I run into the real DanRealtor and BobF. Met Bob for the first time, great guy!

More fun after finally running into Dan and the guys in the staging lanes. Saw Meister towards the end of the night, but was unable to talk to him.

My car just could not get off the line without spinning. But that was the case for everyone. Some guys were spinning almost out of control. I could trap high speeds but getting off the line was hurting me. Best run was a 12.6 119.

Saw Hal's car going up to the starting line and told Chiro about Hal's set up. He pulled right up to a newer modded Mustang. Light turned green and Hal's car broke right away. I felt bad for him and hope it was just something small. I looked for Hal after that and never could find him.

Leaving to go home I could smell gas. One of my high-pressure rubber gas lines had ruptured. Luckily I take tools and stuff to the track and was able to fix in less than 10 minutes. Mopped up the rest of the gas and when I started my car the gaslight was on. Prior to that I was at 1/4 tank! Don't think these things have high-pressure fuel pumps? Think again.

All in all everything was fun.

It was borrowed from Wagondoc (Eddie) his neighbor. Nice neighbor, huh? It's Eddies' wife's jeep. Looked very nice (Blue steel).
