Great E55 AMG encounter

Sunday, while out furniture shopping with the wife and 2 kids I pull up next to an E55 AMG (absolutely beautiful). The guy is in the car with three passengers (looks like his teenage son, and two teenage daughters). He looks over and me and gets a great big grin on his face and says something very flattering (couldn't make it out completely) about my SRT. I just did the head down (I'm not worthy) to his car and asked him his HP which he replied was 500. Traffic light was green and the traffic ahead of us had created a considerable distance because of our gabbing and admiring of each others cars. I looked over at him and he pointed forward and punched it, and I did the same (from about a 10 mph roll up to maybe 65 mph). He dropped to my rear bumper immediately and we stayed that way until we had to brake (caught traffic again). At which time he and his son pulled up next to me gushing about the sound coming from my car (just installed the Air Hammer). Next light he comments about going to the local track and the looks he gets for being in his vehicle, I get those same reactions, we exchanged a few more pleasantries and the traffic had again given us room and this time he didn't give me a warning, he just hit it and I reacted. He pulled about 2 car lengths on me and we stayed that way until traffic and his turn off. No doubt that his car was faster, more refined, but the SRT didn't embarrass itself. And that is one AMG that I know is being used as it should. Everyone should be careful to generalize the people that drive all of these cars, because car people come with all size wallets!!! Great ambassador for Mercedes this guy was.

Now that’s the way it should be. Two car loving guys out and about enjoying and respecting each other. Very nice story…it warms my heart actually to see someone driving that caliber of car giving props to us. Thanks for sharing your time!

Isn't that what you drive? It was a fabulous car, silver. I'm just kicking myself for not exchanging info so we could hook up on the next track visit.

Not quite on thread, but about your Air Hammer - what do you think? My wife already has low freq issues with the Kicker sub and 6.1, would the A.H. be much different with normal throttle and highway cruise - she'll always have to just deal with my wot times

Good story.

The newer e55's are just plain bad azz. Yes, they are rated right at 489 HP and 515 torque. That's just sick. Then one does an upgrade like Chiromikey and does exhaust and a pulley and runs 11.6 on a bad track. I was spraying and watched him catch me and put me down at the track...that's how bad they are.

I haven't dynoed with it but it feels like a quicker throttle response with more power. The sound is incredible, haven't noticed any droning, resonance (sp?). I have notice that its harder to keep a light foot when driving!!!!

Moose, funny thing was I couldn't even hear the supercharger whine. Now much of that may because of how loud my intake was. But that car was a sleeper, especially if you missed the badgeing!
