HAL - you out there? Any update on what happened?

Having broke twice myself I'm curious to find out what happened to you HAL. I'm working on a fix if its an axle problem...

Whatever it is good luck getting it back on the road soon!

I am curious myself. I was at the track watching right by the starting line when it happened. Funny thing was, the car didn't even launch off the line. The light turned and he barely even surged out...then rolled about another 100’ I thought it went in to limp mode, but I heard it was a rear problem (could be rummor).

I looked for Hal after that and could not find him anywhere. Then when I left BobF (Formally BobF) flagged me down and even he and DR were looking for him.

Hal, did you get sucked up by Martians?

Close Encounters of the Horsepower kind? Sorry…couldn’t resist.

Hope everything is alright with him and his beast.

Hey, good news. I called Hal and talked for a bit. He was battling a cold the night he was at the track and because he had to go through all the crud after his car broke his cold got the best of him. He still sounds under the weather for now and said he would be back among the living soon.

As for his car, it is down at AZ Power and Sound and the boys will be checking to see exactly what happened. He did say Mike was already on the prowl to get a high strength shaft in the works. I'll let Hal chime in on the details when he gets better.

Moose.

Thanks Moose for finding out how Hal was doing. I know there were many that were concerned. Hope he feels better…those colds can beat your butt sometimes!

Thank goodness it wasn’t aliens after all….you know those AZ people and UFO’s.

It's Alive!!!

Thanks for all the concern guys.

I had been battling a bad cold or flu for a couple of weeks, but like the dumb ass I am, I went to the track anyway Friday night. I had been posting for awhile that I was going. What was even dumber was the fact that I had to work Saturday and had to get up at 5:45.
I had the Quaife in the week before and the guys at AZ Power and Sound had got my new converter in and refilled my bottle. I don't remember who all I had talked to that day, Moose, DanR, and Bobf and said I might not make it.

Being I didn't have time for any experimentation before heading to Firebird I didn't know what to expect.
So I make a NA pass with a good burnout. Powerbraked to about 2800, had a little DR slippage, still did a 1.83 60' and ran 12.90 at around 107. DA was around 2450. So I went right back to staging. Car runs 181 to 183 all the time. Was back to 183 when I got back up. Bobf checked and they said I could take the slicks only lane with my big DR's. Just sat there a couple of minutes idling, temp was back to 181. Did another good burnout, armed the N2O, window switch set at 4,000 RPM and was ready to rock and roll. Powerbraked to about 2800 again, launched moved alittle and heard a metallic pop. Coasted a bit. Sat there awhile before they finally came to see.
Well I think this was around 10, didn't get the wrecker there till midnight. Bobf had came over and offered me a ride, I thanked him as Dan had already offered. It was almost 12:30 when the wrecker left for AZP&S. Mike went down and locked her up in the back lot. DanR dropped me off at about
1:10AM. Thanks again Dan

I then had to work from 7:30am to 10:00PM Saturday. I couldn't get out of bed Sunday and my wonderful wife Cindy went in and finished the job working from 9:00AM to 5:00PM. I spent pretty much all day in bed today also.

DanR called, and I missed it, I called back and his line was busy and the next time it went to message. Moose called later and we chatted for about 15 minutes. Anthony, Udluuz called recently, missed that one too, called back, line was busy.
Jason at AZP&S said the drivers side half-shaft tore apart on the top, but they didn't have it on the rack yet. So I called my son Wes, who is a Chrysler Parts Manager, and asked him to overnight me a new one from LA.

I love my new converter. The problem is it makes the weakest link even weaker. So until we have stronger half-shafts, I'm done at the track for now.
We have more mods and more HP coming. Serves no purpose if we can't get the HP I already have to the ground.

I feel better today, and should be good by the weekend. I haven't been sick for almost 5 years, but when I do, it's usually bad.

Glad to hear that you and your car are on the road to recovery. Check with CButler about the 1/2 shafts. IIRC one of the FL boys that he met has some custom made strong 1/2 shafts built already.

Good to hear from you HAL.

Man reading your post brought back bad memories...X-2! I feel for ya and know EXACTLY how you felt...minus the cold of course! When I heard you broke I just knew it was the drivers side half-shaft...thats the one I broke twice.

Anyway, I hope you get it fixed up soon! I'm avoiding the track myself until the stronger half-shafts come....which should be soon.

I hope you feel better bro! Take care!
