Took the car into the dealership, just received a call that the tire with the patch is way out of balence. The service advisor then tells me that those tires are not supposed to be patched and I need to replace.
Not a plug, a patch and essentially he's telling me the shop I had patch it did a crappy job of balencing after, but they aren't supposed to patch these tires anyhow!
This is becoming a trend. So like I stated the service adviser claims that patching these tires are unsafe. Claims I need a new tire, I told him to get back to me with his best price.....hang up......I call not one but two goodyear dealers who both tell me that patching these tires is fine.
Called the service manager out on it......he claims that its chryslers policy.....I call Bull@#$% and he says that hes going to give me a new tire. Got the car back vibration still there and a new tire on order. Problem is I didn't care about the getting a new tire, I wanted the vibration gone, why they didn't balance that tire/wheel again and see if we the vibration is still there, which I'm sure it is because it was there before I picked up the screw in the tire in the first place.
Oh, also got the 1-2 shift TSB. did one WOT shift 2-3 and had no hesitation. I will verify in the next couple of days that it is gone. too tired and irritated to look at that car right now!

Listen up, that is a bunch of sh*t. Tell him to cancel the order and take your car to your local tire shop and have it high speed balanced. I had my tires plugged and patched with no issues. Now if you drove on a flat tire that may cause them to come unbalanced and after patching or plugging they will need to be balanced again.
If that is his only reason for him ordering you new tires tell him to go f**k himself or the new tires (whatever he prefers).

But he is giving me a new tire for free. Ofcourse my car just hit 7K miles and this will be the 9th tire put on the car. They also do Road force balance at the dealership and it is all free to me. I'm just tired of this guy because I have to stay on him and double check everything. I had to talk him into the slotted Rotors TSB and make him think it was his idea, I had to talk him into the 1-2 Shift hesitation TSB. And since the tires on the car (new) were road force balanced 1800 miles ago (they have 1800 miles on them) and the car still vibrated at 80 i think there is something else wrong, like say alignment. The service adviser is telling me that a car with a bad alignment wouldn't vibrate.

oh free, well I take back everything. Get me a pair if you can...lol. But for real did someone drop him on his head. If the car is off alignment it can make the car shake but it will always shake not just at 80 and above. That really sounds like the tire balance is off. Take it to tire shop and see what they say.
You most likely have the Eagle F1's like most of us. The reason that they would say that you shouldn't patch the tires is because they lose their Z rating good up to 186 (I think). They are indeed still roadworthy, but not 100% safe at high speed. Not that they aren't entirely full of ****e but, at least a somewhat valid reason.
Aren't they actually Y rated tires? If goodyear has no issue with patchs on these tires (they're liable, remember firestone lawsuits) then Chysler has no say.
When the service adviser told me that Chrysler wouldn't allow patches (he may have specified this dealership) I asked him who makes the call on whats acceptable in regards to tires, Chrysler or Goodyear. Guess what the answer was...........and the winner is Goodyear!!!!
