Speeding Ticket Insurance

To all who is remotely interested, I have been an avid believer in laser diffusers.

Prior to purchasing my SRT8, I used to drive my BMW as my everyday car. In it was a laser diffuser system and it worked great. Matter of fact, it paid for itself 100X's over.

I took the system out and placed in my SRT8 and tested it w/ a local police officer that I know and it failed miserably. My "Bentley knock-off" steel mesh grille was a stinking beacon and might as well as flashed my speed back to the laser operator.

I went online to the old laser diffuser forums that I spent way too much time in the past and found out that my diffusers were LED and that the better protection were from diodes.

So, I went ahead and spent the $$ for the new system, installed it and ran the test again. Only, out of the two diodes, we found one of them wasn't working. Regardless, my cop buddy was still running speed at a section of town, so I went over anyway. As I crested over a hill, my V1 and diffuser went crazy, so I knew he was shooting at me.

I pulled over to him and he said he got an error reading, but after 1600 ft, he was able to tag me. I was dissapppointed, but figured that since I had only one "eye" that it would work better when I got the replacement, I remembered that the instructions stated that after 8 seconds, the factory settings disable the system. I called the North American distibutor and he walked me through keeping my system on, w/ only manual turn off and ran my car again.

OH MY GOSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even w/ one diffuser in front working, he got errors all the way until I pulled up to his car!

If anyone out there knows anything about diffusers, do NOT go w/ anything other than diodes. No NOT go w/ LED diffusers.

So go with Diodes and not L.E.D. (Light Emitting Diodes)??
Just pulling your leg.. hehe..

Can you direct me in to the webpage or a contact how to get the same Diffuser you are using?

So basically it scables the signal enough until you slow down to speed??? If you put them in the rear of the car does it work that way also??

Here is a fairly recent thread concerning Laser’s. SRT8-Croatia looked to have quite a nice set up as well and a website. Just throwing out more information to you.

Take it from experience

Guys-

Stop fooling yourselves. I've had the Blinder M40 system and it worked great on my BMW 740il. It had a lower profile and lower signature return.
Our SRT8's, especially if you have the SS grille returns an unbelievable signature.

The only reason why I'm sharing this w/ you all is because we are all "brothers" in hemi's and simply want to share w/ you my experience so you don't get your A$$ handed to you by a cop.

BTW, I've tried locating my former Blinder M40's LED's in the lower fairing, and while it looked cool, it worked like $hit. See below for a post I made in another forum.

Also, while the K40's look cool where they are, they too are about as functional as the gal's tit$. All show. However, if you want more than to simply look cool and be functional, go w/ a diode system.

Posted: Tue Jan 23, 2007 5:09 pm Post subject: Truth is Truth Guys-

I want you to know I have been a great fan of your for years. Matter of fact, being such a car nut in my circle of individuals that I influence, I'm personally responsible for the sale of dozens of your M40 units.

I recently tested my 300 SRT8 against a Stalker laser and it FAILED miserably. As it were, I had purchased on behalf of a friend of mine who just bought the new E550 and had it installed. As we went to test it w/ a local police officer, I went ahead and tested mine that I had installed months ago. Being that my M40 system worked well on my 2001 BMW 740il, I just figured it would work great on my Chrysler. NOT SO.

It failed in every aspect. I have to admit, I have the Bentley knock-off steel mesh grille, but still the Blinder did absolutely nothing. The Mercedes w/ the lower profile worked great. It didn't get a reading until after around 400 ft. I was like a beacon over 2000ft.

I was so upset, I ripped it out that day, sent away for the LPP and just came home tonight after testing it w/ the same officer and same gun. The LPP worked GREAT!!!

I'm not telling you guys this to make you feel bad. Matter of fact, you folks saved me a lot of headaches on my BMW, but because I care of you guys and know the integrity of your product, you need to know the cold truth. Currently, the diodes that LPP makes are far superior.

I hope you don't just deny this and bury your heads in the sand. Get going and come back w/ an even better product. If you do, I'll buy you again.

Aren’t those black things on your grille noticeable? So if having a jammer is illegal and they get error codes and see you with those black things on the front won’t they stop you? Just curious what the rules of engagement are.

Laser jamming is not illegal in most places. Active radar jamming is.

Well, there are several sites that can explain it better, and here's one:

Passive vs Active radar and laser jammers which works better (this is an old link but gives you the idea)

Passive jammers don't really jam at all. They simply deflect or absorb the radar or laser signal. As you can read above, passive does not work, so be careful where you spend your money.

Active jammers actually transmit something back to the operator to give it a wrong reading or a confused signal that results in an unuseable reading. Active radar jammers are federally illegal. Active laser jammer are legal in most places and work.

The dilemna for me and lots of other people is that laser jammers are expensive. And even if you're by yourself on the road and the cops laser is jammed, any cop with instant on radar will still get you if you're in front of the pack or alone (the best radar detectors out there can't help with instant on if you're the one being targeted). So you're paying a high price for a situation that is relatively low occurance in everyday life. Most, like me, are happy to have a good radar detector and know that it's not foolproof.

Guys, There's no foolproof way of avoiding getting hit with a laser or radar gun. I have the M-40 and we did not get a reading on the laser gun used in NY! There are 3 to 4 popular laser guns used in the US. Not all work as good as one another. That said instant on radar there is no defense only if a LEO (law enforement officer) hits a car well ahead of you where you're radar detector goes off for a second or two then goes silent. Thats the only way for you to stay alert and hopefully slow down before you are in his sights!!! As for the laser jammers they are banned in a few states like Washington/Coloardo, etc.. But the way you are to use them is by when you get a hit on your laser jammer that means the LEO is lasering your car. At that POINT you are to slow down as quickly as possible WITHOUT jamming the brakes to get to the speed limit and TURN OFF your laser jammer so the LEO can get a reading at the legal speed! Laser guns often show errors codes because it is a light beam that refects off your car and sometimes the light does not hit correctly giving you precious time to slow down. I hope this helps. And for TOPGUN I'm sorry to say my LED's worked great. JTG (Jam TO Gun) a few times and did numerous tests in all different locations. Diodes are also very good and work just as well if not better but decided with the M_40's because I've read they worked best on all types of laser guns.
Hope you guys aren't too dizzy from reading all this! Good luck and drive safe..
