One of the mopar rags has an article on a new 6-speed standard for the 5.7 and 6.1...it's a $5k kit, supposedly takes a half second of the 1/4, and runs 1350 RPM at 75MPH in 6th...which has like a .66 ratio...and is rated for 700 pound-feet of tq...with a version that'll handle 900 to come later. Available this spring. I have the magazine in the car...I'll fill in some details later. I did see a picture of the shifter...it looks factory.

Is this the 6 speed offered by Keisler Engineering (supporting vendor on this forum)?

Yeah, it's the Keisler tranny. It doesn't deliver 700HP (WTF?!?), it handles 700 pound-feet of torque...according to the article in MOPAR Action, with a version for up to 900 to come later.
It's supposed to be really similar to the tremec for Viper...major difference being the .62 (I know I said .66 earlier) ratio in top gear instead of .50.
What really impressed me was how much effort appears to have gone into making it an easy swop. Based on what I read in the article, just about everything about it is an easy "drop the old part and the new one fits perfectly in its place" operation. I think there is exactly one hole that has to be cut...amazing. The article had pictures, and all of them made the system look factory...especially the shifter. Even a car nut who didn't know that you can't order a LX with a standard transmission would swear it came that way from the factory.
The end of the article covered some of the options out there, or soon to be out there, to replace the 3.06 rear end we inherited from Benz, including the Quaife LSD I've seen discussed in here. I'd say combining the Keisler transmission with the Quaife differential spells FUN

Sounds like every project on Horsepower TV, Trucks, and This Old House. Amazing how they can rebuild a whole motor in ten minutes on television. All the cars are nice and clean, you never have to use the blue wrench on frozen bolts and everything just slides right in the first time. They probably have 10 grease monkeys you never see on camera beating the crap out of those cars so the stars can come in and barely get their hands dirty.
No offense meant, 'pup. The 6 speeder sounds like a cool idea and I'm sure from your description the kit is very well designed. But I've wrestled with enough trannys to know that this will be a bear of a job for somebody who tries to do it in their home garage.
I believe Keisler stated "recommend professional installation" and can be accomplished in about 14 hrs., but can be installed by yourself.
I've been there before also and its not easy on your back with jackstands.
Professional 1, self 0

Hehehe...I didn't mean to suggest doing it under a tree in your front yard...I was commenting more on how little cutting/fabrication seems to be involved. It seems to be designed to look 100% factory, inside and underneath, and not leave a bunch of leftovers (holes, brackets, whatever) all over the place if you decide to go back to factory. Heh...I almost feel like it would be muchcheaper for DCX to adopt this tranny as a factory option than to develop their own. And 14 hours sounds like a reasonable amount of time for a pro to do it in a real shop.

I guess what I meant there was that everything that has to be physically attached to something else in any way whatsoever, does so in exactly the same way in exactly the same place, as the factory transmission, with no cutting or welding or adapters or anything. Exceptions being fundamental to the difference between a standard and an automatic, like the reservoir for the clutch...

You are most likely correct assuming their "engineering" is adequate and complete. It will be interesting to hear about the 1st install. I do like the thought of the manual.

I drove a manual for ten years. That's why I salivated when the SRT8 came out. My wish was answered.
