PPP's 426: Real World Road Test & Review

A true beast showed up at my home today. Pictures were taken; test drives were done; some 1/4 miles were logged; some data was gathered.

Initial reaction: Holy @#$@#$$#@

Jeremy's 426 Hemi is
1) Very streetable
2) Very turn-key
3) Ungodly fast

His car is the best put-together package I can imagine.

Some teaser info:

My car went from 40mph to 100mph in 9.83 seconds
(recall, I run 12.9 in the 1/4 mile)
the PPP 426 hemi: 40mph to 100mph in 7.86 seconds

The only difference: My run had a downhill elevation change of about 3 foot. Jeremy ran the opposite direction, and went uphill about 3'.

Pictures and more data to follow.

We ran 1/4 miles using a g-tech type meter (don't recall what brand). Yes 0 I know these meters may not be accurrate, but they tend to be consistent.

Jeremy's 426 ran a 12.75 at 110.9 on the street.
I ran 13.62 @ 104.8 on the street.

What's crucial is the time difference: I normally run 12.9 seconds at 45-50 degrees. It was 36 degrees during these runs. Jeremy beat me by a full second and had no traction. In fact, his first attempt spun the tires through 3 gears, and he had to shut it down.

Jeremy has a higher stall converter, that I wanted to test drive. I'm going to put his stall in my "highly recommended" column, and I will be buying one myself shortly.
Jeremy has a great cam, it sounds a little lumpy, but I thought it was VERY streetable. It rumbles the seat a little, so if you want a smooth sedan, don't use this cam, but don't be afraid of it - it's nowhere nearly as bad as the cams we used to but in small blocks all the time.
Jeremy's wheels are widened, and he was 315's on the rear - and still can't get traction on the street.

I took a test drive with myself, Jeremy, and one other passenger. We must have weighed 600 pounds - so 400 pounds more than drag racing weight.

Shifting was awesome (B&G Tuned through PPP of course). I felt like my car was suddenly a v6. It's that different. When floored, the car just rips!!! I found myself feathering throttle for fear of sliding and losing control - and I'm pretty used to these cars. My car dynos at almost 400hp at the rear wheels. I feel like a snail now.

But - when driving normal, the car was still comfortable and driveable. The stall is unobtrusive, and you'd get used to it in a hurry. Everything about the car still says "daily driver."

I'm sorry I'm rambling a bit, but it's just that good. He must be at least 500-550 at the rear wheels, and it is a realistic, daily driveable car. You might not take business guests in suits in it. You might not take the neighbor couple to dinner in it, but you could certainly drive it to work ,the movies, the grocery, church, etc.

It's that good.

OH - and he has this nifty thing in the trunk that looks like a short scuba tank. It's painted to match the car. Has some kind of "arming" switch, too. He didn't use that today. When he does - things are gonna start breaking!

Bottom line: Jeremy has proven to me that he has a streetable, daily-driveable, reliable, non-forced induction: 11 second SRT-8.

The car felt like you could put 100,000 miles on it. I'm still amazed.

Jeremy was in town for a Mopar swap meet. Usually, with a car like that I would assume someone had a truck and trailered the car in.

Nope. Not Jeremy. Drove to town. Drove to my house after the show. Drove home. Not many vendors doing that.

What a great write up JMatt! As I read this I’m reminded on how I missed meeting Jeremy (and his 426) when he was down here (Fort Myers) with Dave (user name Fixer). They were passing through on there way to Moroso in WPB, and I missed seeing him by just a few minutes. His 426 set up would have been awesome to see in person. Along with meeting the man himself would have been great. Thanks for sharing the nice write up and pictures….that is one sweet looking beast!!

The paint is tons more impressive in person. It's all highly metallic flake. The subdued colors keep it from looking bling. Here's my attempt to capture the look. Also, note that his rear tails were painted over to match, yet the paint on the tails is thin enough for the lights to still shine through. As I mentioned earlier, even the nitrous bottle is painted to match.
