Hi All. I just joined the forum today hoping to locate others with experience driving the 300C SRT-8 in bad weather conditions, specifically in New England weather. I'm jumping back into a lease and my top choice is this vehicle. I would love to be driving this car for the next 3 years, however, I'm concerned about the winter months.
I'd appreciate anyone's experience driving the SRT-8 in rainy/snowy conditions. I know that "snow tires" for the 20" rims is not an option.. I'm told. I've read where others have purchased a set of 18" rims/tires for the winter months. Am I just asking for trouble getting such a fantastic car here in New England?
Welcome to the forums RemDawg and you’ve come to the right place to learn about your proposed lease of a SRT8. About winter driving. Yes I’m from Florida, but I do have a few threads that I think will help answer your questions. From what I can gather we do have quite a few members that use their SRT8’s in the winter, but it would be very important to get the right shoes on her. Hope this helps with your thoughts. If you have further questions please don’t hesitate to ask! Keep us updated on your purchase.
Welcome to the forum RemDawg. I can't answer your question cause I drive the V6, but it looks like some of our members have started to answer you questions. I just wanted to say welcome!

Welcome to the 300c forums! After you're done reading all the good threads posted by danno, you'll most likely be convinced to lease your SRT-8 sooner than later. Thankfully, I don't have to deal with snow conditions. You could always move to Florida or other SW states as well!

20" snows (Pirelli) are definitely an option - and a great one at that. Your limiting factor becomes the fact that your car will drag bottom when there's unplowed snow on the roads. I've driven 15 miles to work with the bottom dragging the entire way. Other than that, with the Pirelli's it will drive as well as any sedan out there.
If you are talking about consistently driving in 6" of snow, forget it and get an AWD 300C. If you just have snow conditions, wet, slippery, under 6" of snow sometimes, and icy. Then you'll do ok. I drove through some 10" snow, and 24" drifts and made it, but it wasn't something to do ever again, and involved some high speed ice racing maneuvers. I drive it as my every day car here in NorthEast Wyoming, winter or not. I also drive it without snow tires, on the goodyear F1's also, it does good enough to get around in a few inches of snow and slippery conditions, but I bet it would do great with a set of snow tires. But, not enough to drive through snow above the front lip. Which is about 6".
I grew up driving in snowy areas with a variety of lightweight rear wheel drive cars. In fact, in high school, I would go to an empty mall on the way to school right after heavy snow falls so I could practice snow driving. I also drove a high-performance Camaro on roads so slick that twice the car slide to the side of the road after *fully stopping* at one particularly icy intersection. So with lots of successful snow and some ice driving under my belt, I thought I could handle driving the SRT with F1s in the snow.
Maybe I might have ultimately been able to in most circumstance but my very first (inadvertant) try was due to returning home after a surprise snowstorm. The road had already iced over and I had to go up a steep hill which was fully iced.
I do not know how I was ever able to make it home without an accident -- going up my average speed went from a moderate confident clip (which years of snow-driving experience taught me would work) to a interesting slide up the road sideways, and then (after some minor success with correction) a 1 or 2 mph average speed up the hill once I turned off ESP (it would not move at all with ESP on).
Going down the hill was faster but similar in orientation: about half of the time was spent going sideways again.
So my initial experience may have unfairly biased me but I will never again try to drive in the snow or ice with the F1s. Kudos to Ultimatecarman for pulling it off!
