Water Wetter

I have used this with good success in several cars previously to help lower temps a few degrees.

How many of you are using this or a similar additive currently?

Is there any reason why you should not use it in these cars?

Thanks

I have not heard one negative comment about the product. I know guys who use it and some that don't, including me. Would I use it? Yes. Why haven't I? Don't know. My engine is all aluminum so we see a bit better result than someone with an iron block would just on the simple basis on how aluminum dissapates heat over iron. If I'm correct the 6.1 is an iron block, right? Have you considered using something like Evans NPG instead? Lots of guys use that with good results, too. It's pricey but if you are looking to lower engine temps that bad you may want to look at that, too.

How low are you trying to get the temp? I'm using a 170 thermostat and the fans keep it at 176. The only time it couldn't keep it that low was in Vegas at 105+ ambient temps. But I'm running one fan high and one low, so maybe with both on high it would keep it down.

Unless you have a car purpose built to run lower than boiling point, and I'm not talking about the overall temperature of the water but the condensed localized boiling point (i.e. closest to the combustion chamber) DO NOT put this in your car!!!

Coolant is designed to increase the boiling point, and freezing point of the water in your coolant. Running 100% water with water wetter is not what you want in a stock vehicle in variable temperature climates.

These engines are designed to run above 220 degrees. Running water/water wetter could have very dire results.

I’ve never heard of the stuff. I guess I’m out of it when it comes to engine coolants. The premise is that you replace your coolant with water and this product? I’d be afraid if something went wrong they would say that I had the wrong stuff in the coolant. Maybe I’m missing the boat here.

You don’t have to tell me twice! I’m not one for “messing with mother nature” so to speak.

This is meant to be used in conjunction with antifreeze. Used it a 100 times before with no bad results. It also acts as a protectant/lubricant. People use it a lot in intercoolers too. Can't see how it would hurt and yes it will have a positive effect even ever to slightly on the temps.

Yes, there are some people who use 25% glycol, 75% water, with water wetter. It will still alter the boiling point. I have yet to hear of a benefit of running water wetter with the stock 50/50 glycol/water. Maybe I'm wrong but I think it's moot.

Don't get me wrong! I'm not knocking the product at all. It's great and is a proven enhancement, but unless there's other modifications made to adjust to running it in your climate it's not recommended nor beneficial.

I would say the possible benefit is lubrication of the cooling system and corrosion protection. Other then that it might help with temps a bit but not enough to make an impact. It's pretty cheap though.

As far as damaging the car you have a better chance of damage with a cold air kit.
