A Few Issues

I have had a 06 300C SRT8 for 2 weeks now (actually a little less, just got it back from the body shop, my brother ripped the front bumper on a parking curb the second day I had it)

Today at @ 80 I hear a noise/tone that sounds like a dash alarm, no warning showed (I had a rental car once that the alarm went off over 85, this sounded similar), can not tell where the noise came from, anyone else have the same thing?

When trying to drive normal in traffic the power seems to surge, almost like driving a small engine with a turbo, engine starts to pull @ 1700 RPM then shifts @ 2000, RPM drops to 1500 & feels like it bogs down, with this displacement, compression ratio & EFI you would not think it would drive this way, its just that the power is not very linear under 2000 RPM.

Also at start up it blows a pretty good amount of smoke, the car has 600 miles on it, it had 26 miles on it when we bought it & the nubs were still on the tires so it was not subjected to the dealer valets.

First of all welcome to the forums and congratulations on purchasing one of these amazing beasts. Sorry to read about your front end. You have many, many sympathetic members who have done similar things. Be paranoid of your front end when it comes to low curbs and parking stops.

As for the alarm sound at 80 we have no warning chime for driving too fast, if so every member here would have ripped it out long ago. I’m not real sure what it could be. When you hear the sound can you see what the Navi is saying? Sometimes it will post a reminder or something that someone may have messed with previously. I know when I set mine to remind me of upcoming oil changes you just hear a chime and if you’re listening to music you won’t see the message in the back ground. Just a hunch.

As for the tranny. I’m not an expert, but since you’re driving a 06 you may need to have them do the TSB on the tranny shift issue. Most everyone that has had it done reports satisfaction. Link is provided below. You may also need to look out for rotor scoring depending on when your beast was made. There is a TSB for slotted rotors. (see below)

Enjoy your ride and don’t hesitate to ask any questions. This place is full of information an very helpful members.

Thanks for all the info, I have been poking around the forums the last couple of weeks, full of great info & links.

No Navigation.

Glad to hear the smoke is common, I figured it might be from the 0-40 synthetic oil.

At least I now have a reason to tell the wife why I need to do some high speed testing on her car (have to make sure its safe for her right? )

The dash noise/tone is perplexing, you have your seatbelt on right? Don't worry about the blowing smoke right now, but while she's still young be sure to seat those rings good by running her hard!

These cars take a little getting used to with the surging and shift points and all the power. Keep us posted and congrats on the purchase - you're going to love it!!!

I found this thread about the low RPM hesitation, did the recomended fix, seemed to help a little with the hesitation but now I have the 1-2 shift hesitation with fuel cut off, standing start, WOT, traction control off, in Drive, .

hesitation when accelerating at low speeds

No not yet. Have only been able to do a couple of hole shots since. It's tough in South Florida to find a place to open it up (all the snow birds on the road, they all head home after Easter )
