Time for more power? Late night run w/ LS2 GTO...

So Sat. night myself the old lady and a couple of friends decide to take a road trip from Kansas City over to St Louis to make a deposit at a few of the gambling establishments. About two hours into the three hour drive at roughly midnight a silver ls2 GTO comes up beside me at roughly 90mph. We messed around a little back and forth, finally we got a long "and I mean long" open stretch of road with no traffic in front of us and finally got a go race in, we started at roughly 70mph and raced up to about 155-160mph. From 70 to 140ish we were dead even I may of even been out in front slightly, however once we got to 145ish he managed to start pulling, by the time we lifted he end up 1.5 - 2 lengths out front.

Of course I have absolutely no idea what mods the GTO had, however I know it at least had exhaust "it was very loud, even at cruising speed", it was also lowered with 20inch wheels. It actually looked very nice "this coming from someone who has never given a gto a second glance". Needless to say it was a good time, of course I would have liked to win but hey at those speeds I figure the aerodynamics on the "brick" 300 had to have taken a large toll on things.

Has anyone else had any highway run ins with late model GTOs?

BTW: My car has a mopar intake, and no other mods. 2100miles on the clock at the time of the race.

It looks like its time for more power!!!

gto race

It is not clear in you post whether or not the passengers were in the car at time of race or if the GTO had driver only or had passenger(s) also. If the GTO driver was alone and you had 3 passengers, you should lose the race with the weight penalty.

I don't think he's stock. I haven't run a GTO at that speed. But i've run a GTO from 60 to about 100 and put about 2 links on him. Also have run a WS6 with intake/exhaust/tune and put about 1 and a half cars on him at 150-155.

Great race though!

70mph is too bad for the SRT8, you should have lowered the speed to 60mph or less, then race him & I believe that you will beat him.

GTO’s don’t have limiters? I’m also thinking about the full load you had. If it’s like when I have a full load of my buddies….good luck…the weight difference will be large.

My 2006 300c srt8 is completly stock and I ran A GTO from a 40mph roll well up to about 145mph I had about 1.5 to 2 cars and was steadliy inching away until we stopped. The GTO was all stock except for I think exaust.

Sorry for the slow reply, I have been out of town for a few days.

Yes my car is a SRT8

During the race it was just myself and one passenger in the car, as well as quite a bit of luggage.

Again no idea on the mods to the GTO?

Trust me I don't like posting a loss anymore than the next guy .
