humongo, glad to hear a local using the TD oil. i'll be switching next time i change my oil....i've already got the stuff in my garage.

JMatt,
Thanks for your research and comments on oil! I know this thread is alittle old, but my old neighbor is a Mobil1 field engineer. He has always told me to use Delvac in my cars and that is what he has always used. He said it is simply the best oil on the market for cars that are driven hard. He puts it in his car ( he drives alot!!) his wifes car and his boat.

I bought it( the Turbo 5w-40) and will be changing to the 5w-40 tomorrow

Thanks again

Bob

I found that the Castrol 5w40 has an SL rating as well. What do you think about that oil in our SRT's? It certainly alleviates the whole diesel thing.

I am using this in my VW GTI. I have put a couple hundred miles on it and I can say it is runing much smoother than it was before the oil and filter change. The oil still looks like it did when I poured it in. I am considering this oil for the SRT in 3K miles. I just changed the oil so it will be a while before I have to change it again. I go 3K or 6 months before I change my oil. Lucky for me the VW has a 10K oil change interval. I will get back with how this oil performs after a few thounsand miles. The back of the bottle has SL listed first.

SAE 5W-40:
Engineered specifically to meet the Volkswagen engine warranty requirements, exceeding VW 502 00 and 505 00. Exceeds all car and light truck manufacturer's warranty requirements for the protection of gasoline, diesel and turbocharged engines where API SL, SJ, SH, CF or CD is recommended. Porsche approved and also exceeds European ACEA: A3, B3, B4, MB 229.3, MB 229.1, BMW LL-98. Meets the engine protection requirements of Volvo, BMW, Mercedes Benz and ILSAC GF-3 for API Certified Gasoline Engine Oils.

Maybe it's good - maybe not. I don't have any data on that oil. IN genereal, I'd prefer SL over SM, but there's just not enough information.

Oh - and there's no "diesel" thing. It's almost silly how hard it is for people to get that word out of their minds. I'm thinking of buying 10,000 quarts of Turbo Diesel Truck, and printing "street race car oil" labels, slapping them on top of the diesel label, adding $3 a quart, and making a huge profit!!!

I have read this thread and kept mulling it over for a while and decided to give it a try. I went down to O'Reilly's and picked up seven quarts of the Mobil 1 Diesel oil (all they had) doulbe checked the ratings on the back of the bottle and when I checked out it rang up for 1.49 a quart. The parts guy looked at the bottles, looked at me and said they must be getting ready to discontinue it so if that is what it is ringing up that's what I'll charge you. So if there are any of you looking for a great deal, there you go.
