I just put a bottle of the blue oil treatment in my 93 Rodeo two days ago. This truck has 226,600 miles and it was running a little rough. I dont believe it but this stuff smoothed out the ride from idle all the way up to 80mph. I was using Lucas oil stabilizer but this blue stuff has done a better job than the Lucas. I am convinced and I will keep using it in my old truck. I am seriously looking at the *** products thanks to GoofyTim at this time. I have one more 0w40 motoroil change, after that I am looking to use something different.

Does it matter if I intend on changing my oil every 3k miles anyway? should I change oils then?

this is a good read Jmatt, thanks - I'm a little depressed that mobil one sells a product that looks, smells, and feels the same - the bottle is identical to the old bottle, and the product is marketed the same - for those of us (myself included) not in the know on this kind of stuff we could have kept on using mobil 1 0-40, in fact i bet my dealer would just put it in and have no idea that it's not the same oil....

I'm sold - mobil-1 turbo diesel oil it is...

Damn good information JMatt. When I saw you started YET ANOTHER "thread that just won't die." I knew it must have been important for you to post it.

I'm a little leary though based on my climate. It gets below zero at least a few times a year.

My SRT10 also takes 0w40 so I'd like to consolidate and buy in bulk for both vehicles. I could see putting the 5w40 turbo diesel Mobil1 in my SRT8 since I don't drive it on such cold days.

What do you think about Chicago weather and my truck though? Since the rating is 0w40, and it can get -5 to -10 the factory rating is already too high. Maybe 5w40 isn't something to be too concerned about???

My Dakota was rated at 5w30

Can you really verify by analysis if you are getting any "coking" (burnt oil deposits) under the piston crowns? Since we run uniquely hot in this area compared to almost any other engine, I would be very interested in this prior to increasing my oil change intervals.

Thanks in advance.

And kudos to Jmatt again for publishing an oil expose'. I just changed to 15w-50 Mobil one to kill the dreaded whine, but I'll quickly choose another oil for the future.
I posed your question to Brian, and here is what he said in reply... the delay was due to his traveling prior to seeing my PM.

Quote:
First, the Magnuson-Moss act prohibits DCX or any MFGR of a "parts, materials, and workmanship" warranty from refusing warranty coverage because you didn't use "ABC or MOPAR oil". It has to meet the API and SAE specs and grade, and that is all. They do not warranty anything that they do not produce. That is why in the owners manual it gives specs, not brands. They can only suggest.

The second part to the question is carbon buildup around the piston crown and under the piston.

I produce a Mineral Synthetic base material of my own design that has ALL of the reactive hydrocarbons removed before it is ever blended. As on our site, we heat up a Stainless Steel panel that is 6'x6' to 600 degrees F and test each and every batch for any reactivity. If it doesn't pass, it is sent back for more regeneration. If it does pass, it is then used to make the different blends that I engineer so that each gallon is correct and blended appropriately. Since there are components that bolster the oil to withstand all the heat that these engines can produce including flame kernal (3500-4200 Deg F) Our oils withstand over 6000 deg F combustion temperature. No way we will leave ANY deposits period. Clean, lubricated and protected far beyond anyone elses lubricants.

Hope this helps your friend. Regards!!

Brian
I just changed out our Heritage Edition oil at 7300 miles service. Am sending it to Blackstone for analysis. When I get those results I have requested two sample bottles so that I can send the virgin oils in for a baseline analysis. When the MSRT8 comes up for it's next oil change (planning for 5k miles on the oil, and only 6k miles on the MSRT8), I will send that it for analysis before extending further. Either way, I don't plan to go beyond 10k/change with either vehicle.

Matt (vvv90)... Brian is based around the Cleveland, OH area. He should be familiar with weather similar to Chicago, AND he owns an '06 Charger SRT8. So me thinks the *** oils, coolants and Fuel Catalyst are designed with racing performance engines (and the weather) in mind.

Sorry Matt - I hadn't noticed your post. I think Chicagoland is still fine for 5W-40. You garage it at night, right? The only places that would really make me think are places like Montana, Saskatchewon, the far northeast, some places in Quebec, Alaska, etc.

Remember - for the first 100 years of the piston engine 0 weight didn't exist. The few starts you're going to have below -10 Fahrenheit are likely meaningless. My engine's been running and sounding great since I switched. Great oil pressure, great oil temps, no engine noise.

'Tho I caught some static for it a couple of years ago, I've been using 5W-40 from the first oil change (until recently, as 5W is hard to find by me now).
Yet Another Oil Change Post
IIRC, 5W is good down to -20*F (check the owner's manual for the exact #).
It's funny how the "'engineers" now say OK to 15W-40 because it solves the whining problem that some owners experience. I wonder, if it was so important that we use 0 or 5W 2 years ago, what are we sacrificing by now using 15W to quiet down the squirters? Probably nothing, but its something to think about.
It's a dynamic world.
I added a 1/2 pint of E.O.S. (as described in my earlier post) to my oil. I'll stock up on 5W-40 diesel next time around.
-Steve
