Question Lower Plastic Engine Gaurd?

Hey Guys,

I know this is probably happened to a bunch of guys with this car, but since mine is only 3 months old this is the first time it has happened to me. I must have pulled up too close to a parking bumper and cracked the lower plastic engine guard (please inform me of the correct part name). I didn't cause me much problem until the other day there was a tropical storm in Florida, and the piece came half way off on the high way. Long story short, I have to replace this part. I called a couple dealers and they say its about $160.00.

My question is, should I buy it from the dealer or is there a) a better place to buy it from or b) a better one to buy that is more durable? Let me know, any help would be great. Thanks.

Amit

Its called the front belly pain and is a dealer part (meaning no aftermarket ones are available). I haven't heard of any stronger ones being offered, though not a bad idea.

After mine blew out on the freeway, I ordered a replacement from here:
Direct PARTS connection

They had the best price. Part numbers:
Underbody shield/belly pan w/SRT: 5029 908AB (I was told by one local dealer that they have stopped making a different SRT pan and the new part number is 5029 908AC. I used AB to order and it worked.) - same number for all LXs from what I could find.

Fender Nut Back: 6505 223AA - need 2 (if the fascia pulled out of the fender)
Fender Screw w/washer: 6503 929 - need 2 (if the fascia pulled out of the fender)
Small bolts w/clip nuts to connect fascia to pan: 6506 161AA - need 10 (all LXs)

My total was about $130 with shipping, I couldn't even get just shield locally for less than $145.

I think the 2007 SRT8 uses the AC number, I looked at the original part and it is AC, and the website also says "W/SRT8 2007", they must have changed some stuff around so that there is no special SRT8 version. Thanks for the help it worked out great!

I guess that sub-consciously slipped through. I can't believe that the mechanical joint between the pan and the fascia is damaged beyond repair so easily. You'd think they could have used the christmas tree plugs every other or something.

It just happend to me for the second time in a week, luckily it's quite loud when you hear it ripping away when you back up, I just pick up the little plastic bolt things and go home and pop them back in, but I keep ending up with bolts that won't go back in.

Do they give you new bolts with the kit? Why the hell does this happen? I'm on the stock rims so the car doens't sit high like if I was on 22's or 24's. It seems the majority of these cars on theroad have nice rims and sit higher.

I guess you need this part, this under belly deal?

That thing happened to me as well. It was falling down. I went to dealer to attach it couple times, paid $20 for 2 plastic plugs, but it was still falling down in a few weeks until it fell down low enough to pull front bumper and fascia as I was backing off from a parking spot. Then I went to a nearest repair shop and they fixed everything, attached the screen. All for $30! The screen is no longer falling down.

I could not believe this 5 star dealer does such crappy job. It also took 2 visits to them to eliminate rattle in sunroof. Apparently, after whatever they did, they never tested car with open sunroof. Open sunroof and rattle was starting immediately.
