Encountered a GT500, in my dad's garage

I drove a GT500 Shelby Mustang yesterday. I was quite stunned with the acceleration of this car. It has only 28 miles on it, and like is suspected with our cars, I have heard that it will not reach highest total hp until after 800 miles. In spite of that, it was stupid fast. I drive an extremely fast car every day of my life, and am not easy to impress, however, this thing was impressive. It wasn't violent, it was very smooth, just schmoove fast. I am kinda jealous of the touch screen navigation, as well as the power. Anyhow. I am definiitely going to have to purchase the Zex nitrous now. I have horsepower envy. Lets see, he has 500, I have 425. 425 + 125 nitrous= 550. Sweet, I'll be back on top. Shalom

Sounds like a pretty amazing ride. I saw one down in Naples the other day, but the traffic was bumper to bumper and not moving so I couldn’t really see it stretch it’s legs. Good luck with your endeavor at being on top!

I'm looking forward to driving and/or riding in one of the new GT500's. The one thing that struck me about the previous generation cobra (390hp) and the lower hp mach 1 was the lack of traction and an overall hefty feel. These things are burnout machines!....which often doesn't translate into the forward motion you want.

The huge problem with these is the dealer markup. At $43K, OK but with the markup I'm seeing it doesn't add up and I would look at something else instead of spending $50-$60K on a Mustang. I was excited about the prospect of the Boss 302 coming back with the new Hurricane motor, but the 5-10K markup will kill it for me.

I pull 1.9x 60's with my Mach 1 on street tires and a 4.10 rear end - 100% stock suspension. That's not too bad IMO. Slicks get me 1.6x.

Dealer markup is why I don't own the GT500 right now. You nailed it.

and...

I have heard of even more mark up!

WTF? Are people blessed with more money than sense? The regular GT500's are going to be produced in big volume, so they will soon be marked down as they pile up.

Sound familiar?

Unfortunately, that sounds all too familiar!!!

Although I didn't pay a dealer markup, I definitely didn't get as good of a deal as some of the people I have been hearing about lately!

when I bought my 03 cobra they were still getting 5K over. I paid sticker and still bitch about that. I picked up my new 06 SRT8 for about 36K. So I know how to find a deal.

I didn't feel so bad after Ford bought my original one back with 7K miles on it, gave me back all my money for mods, and charged me nothing for the mileage. Then provided me with a second run car in a new color. My first one would have been more exclusive, only one of 155 Verts in that color. My second one is one of 610.
