ran with a C5 vert

...and it was fun. The guy pulled up next to me at a light in a 45 at a time of day with great visibility and no traffic, complimented me on my car, to which I replied that I'd trade him if I didn't need 4 doors. Then the light changed and we were off. I didn't really hammer it till we were already halfway through 1st, but he only had his front wheel even with my bumper by then. We ran up to about 75 with not more than a foot of give and take, then let off almost simultaneously. When we were back down to a reasonable 50, He said "man, that thing is way too fast for 4 doors. What did you do to it?". I grinned and said: "well, I got a cover for the center armrest and some color-matched fogs..." His eyes got big and he said "it's stock?" I said "yep". He said "Daaaamn". Well, I was in a right turn lane (at another light by now), so we said our goodbyes, and I went to get some lunch. I dunno, maybe with the ESP all the way off and a clean air filter...but you run what you brung, and it would have been a much less pleasant affair if one of us had dusted the other....like when some stoopid (stock, no doubt; they can be made fast pretty cheaply) rustang GT tries to have a go at me.

I raced a '02 vett like 3 weeks ago. From 50mph to 130mph I was about 2 cars in front. His response was "Damn that thing does run".. Priceless I tell ya.

For a moment I was afraid I was going to get wiped really bad. I only raced him just to see how I would do against a completely stock C5. Good thing I won cuz I would have never heard the end of it from my buddy I raced..

Interesting. I own an SRT8 and a C5 vert. I've never run the two head-to-head, but I always felt that on a straight run the SRT8 would be slightly ahead. They are very comparable in straight away acceleration. Does anyone have a 0-100MPH comparison on the two?

BTW - I love them both

Well I had the pleasure of running a Blue Hair in a Z06 with my C (ya, I new what was going to happen) and never caught up to him.

It was like charity, I know I made his day!

Like that story! Mutual appreciation for two beautiful rides.

We're waiting for a clear morning when we both have the time to take our 'C' and our C6 out together and let them dance. When the opportunity arises, I'll report in.

Ah, Walter, long time, no speak! I'm in Colorado now...and run under the protection of V1...

I had another interesting run tonight. I had no idea the 5.7 GTOs were so weak...I think a C could take one. The first time, I didn't think she was going to go (side by side at a light, even waved to one another), but I had ESP all the way off just in case. She went, obviously dropped the hammer first, but I reacted immediately, and was surprised at how badly I beat her. I got to the next light first and actually came to a full stop before the light turned green. She timed it and hit it with about 15-20mph velocity just as it turned green. I heard her downshift, it must have been into second instead of first based on the result, but it was hard to tell over the squealing of my tires, and this time I had half a length before the top of first gear.

Don't get me wrong, even stock, a 6 liter goat is no joke...but beating a 5.7 goat from a dead stop when it's already rolling at at least 15MPH? That's just crazy! I hope I didn't crush her spirit, it's not often that I run into a girl who's willing to use a fast car as intended...Hemeee is one in a billion!
